2019 Spring Practices, Game, and Tidbits

There is nothing here for any assistant to stay for except gaining experience, and then move on for whatever reason. (Lavar, Fickle). It stands to reason that they all want to improve themselves.
Coach May will be either a hero or a goat at the end of the season. A hero the assistants get to stay, a goat? say bye bye.

Your assumption is based around the thought that he’s going to stink and retire. That isn’t mine.

What’s the difference in him bringing back the defense to respectability and then retiring? There’s literally no difference.

It kind of seems like you’re just angry because he’s old. Not about his actual ability to do the job. He was offered an extension to stay at Michigan, by the way. You saying he was on the way out isn’t true.
I don't think he's going to stink and retire. I don't think he's going to stink at all. He's probably going to be unnoticed. He's going to retire because he's old and almost done with coaching. The issue is opportunity cost. We could have done better than a guy who only ticks boxes that we already have ticked, and is going to be gone soon anyways.

6.5

For comparison's sake...Beck was a 0

edit: I probably read this wrong. I grade the hire 6.5 out of 10. Not disastrous like Beck or Davis by any stretch, but we could have and should have done better.
Ok so yeah I feel like a lot of electronic ink is being spilled over something no one really cares that greatly about.

Anyway, carry on!

How do you know that Day could have done better? Who is better and was willing to leave their current position for a relatively unknown HC. Day has a history with all of his new hires on D and he obviously feels the different personalities will gel with Coach J, the only remaining leftover on D.

How do I know? Because we're Ohio State. There's like 2 people in the country that you don't need to bother asking bc they aren't coming. Anybody else? Make them say no before you get the non-DC from a D you just put 62 on.

Watch me play a magic trick with your last sentence.

Urban has a history with Bill Davis and he obviously feels the different personalities will gel with Coach Schiano.

OSU with Meyer and OSU with Day are different until Day proves himself. Coach Meyer had a proven track record of turning assistants into HCs.

Not all situations will end the same as the Davis-Schiano debacle. Could they? Sure. Who knows? Let's see how it 2019 plays out.

Schiano was meant to be in Knoxville when Grinch took the job and i dont think much thought was given to geling.
By all accounts, Mattison and Hafley had these discussions beforehand and they do sound like they gel.
I'm fine if Mattison is Tyrod Taylor for a year or two before throwing Hafley in the deep end. He sounds like a quick study. Hafley is our young gun DC ... adding a 2nd would've repeated the Grinch fiasco with 2 egos fighting over whose the 'real' DC and using the team in a political fashion to separate themselves. I'll take a veteran journeyman DC to steady the boat after last year's debacle and Offense minded Days' first year.

PS LJ is amazing but he spent just 1 transitional year as Co-DC.
