2019 tOSU Defense (Official Thread)

Which I think we will do... 9 starters returning, coaches who want to be here, coaches who can coach fundamentals, and lots of depth.

Would be shocked if this group doesn't go back to a top 20 defense.
Not to cast aspersions, but in hindsight, i wonder if Grinch didn't have a foot out the door from very early on and a "meh" attitude from the "co-coordinator" didn't bleed onto the field. I mean, we know the LBers had a coaching deficiency, but there were issues all over the field. New blood, a simplified scheme, and guys that really want to be here for the long haul should make a big difference.

That was what I was insinuating... Have fun trying to stop big12 offenses Grinch.

yeah, I really like the starting secondary of Fuller and White @ saftey and a combo of Wade, Okudah, and Arnette @ corner to start the season, even with the loss of Sheff.

Def need to build some depth and replenish some talent and numbers in the 2020 class, but I feel confident going into '19 with that group and maybe some change in philosophy and technique with a new voice coaching them up.

Honestly, with improved coaching and fundamentals, I would be shocked if they aren't back to their typical levels of at least a top 20 defense. Hopefully even top 10. And if they are, even if the offense slips back some from #2 to let's say #10, the overall team should be much improved. I know there was a poll somewhere, but I think it's up to the linebackers going from a 4/10 to a 7/10 and the OL at least staying at a 7/10. If that happens, and Fields is legit, this team at a minimum should be in the playoffs.

My thoughts on some defensive players:
I wonder if Riep would be moved back to CB for depth.
Would the staff move Pryor(and/or Wint) to OLB, since he's not a very good S, he could be a great OLB

Curious to see if we see Pete Werner lined up outside in 1-on-1 coverage as much as we did last year. He didn't do a terrible job, but that is a pre-snap win for the offense and offenses were able to get into it easily.
