2019 tOSU Offense (Official Thread)

the defense overall has been really good. When you are still in the top 2 in every major statistical defensive category and you have played your 2nd and 3rd string guys for most of the 2nd halves of half the games on the schedule, that's not a weakness.

If they can get the right match ups and prevent certain personnel groupings (LB's) from getting exposed with TE's and RB's out of the backfield on big plays, their defense will be fine.

I agree that protecting Fields and keeping him upright is the key to a Natty. QB play has been great, the run game has been nasty when they've needed it most, the back end of the defense has been lock down, the d-line is deep and disruptive. All key ingredients to making a run.

OHIO STATE'S OFFENSIVE LINE NAMED FINALIST FOR JOE MOORE AWARD

110273_h.jpg

Ohio State's offensive line has officially been recognized as one of the best in the country.

The Buckeyes' front five was named Tuesday as a finalist for the Joe Moore Award, which honors college football's best offensive line. Alabama, LSU and Oregon are the other finalists.

Re: The Buckeyes have had some issues in pass protection, allowing 31 sacks in 13 games, but their power and dominance in the run game – including 339 knockdown blocks – and leading Ohio State's offense as a whole was enough to earn recognition from the Joe Moore Award committee as one of college football's top four offensive lines this year.

Just sayin': 31 sacks....ouch!

Also, Never heard of that award before.

True, however last night Justin was on one leg so that game was a bit of an outlier.
He can be a little hesitant on his release and needs to improve his pocket management. These are consistent issues and ones that are concerning with superior athletes upcoming (that were not present on this year's schedule). He's similar to Braxton in that regard, in that both can get into bad spots and rely on supreme physical gifts to escape them.

This past game was an outlier in that he was limited in how he could escape.

These are also his only real weaknesses (maybe a little struggle on touch on deep balls), and he's already the best QB in school history. And like the last one, he would've run away with the heisman in a normal year (or with other marketing).

He's a monster and somehow OSU mostly improved from:

Troy - the GOAT (at least back then)
to Pryor - the greatest recruit ever at any school
to Braxton - the greatest running QB ever at OSU
to JT - the most successful QB and the best short yardage back ever at OSU
to Cardale - the greatest 3 game start in the sport's history
to Dwayne - the most prolific QB in league history
to Justin - in the conversation for the greatest QB in school history

Okay there was 1 year of Todd in there (during a NC run) and some Bauserbombs, but still. That run is outrageous.

SLOB LOVE. My blogger brain is nowhere near smart or fast enough to have any idea what the hell is going on with the offensive line in real-time, but it's my absolute favorite unit to go back and watch on replay, especially if someone is kind enough to slice up some highlights for me.

And it looks like Mike Golic Jr. is our hero of the week.

One of my favorite offseason traditions is Ohio State fans irrationally expecting a unit to somehow improve after massive personnel losses, because most of the time, it happens!

This year's offensive line is a prime example. There's literally one returning starter from last season's opening-day starting offensive line and this year's slobs are putting together murder montages like that while earning a nomination for a national award.

As an aside: big shoutout to Jonah Jackson, who very much excels at violently moving extremely large humans against their will. It ain't really fair that one of the most loaded rosters in college football added him and Justin Fields, but I'll sure take it!
