2019 Week 3 CFB Open Thread

Have fun with your fantasies. Just don't be mad when they don't come true.

I don't like the current reality any more than you, but it is what it is at this point.

"Great wins" aren't nearly as important as fans think they are these days. So called "style points" mean little.

Alabama goes undefeated or has one loss, they're in the playoff. The same is true of Clemson no matter how much the ACC sucks.

Two spots left...ND loses to Georgia but beats scUM and wins the rest of their games, they're in. Oklahoma rolls through the Big XII undefeated, they're in. Guess where that leaves us? Go undefeated, or go to a bowl game then go home.

The ability of Ohio State to get into the CFB Playoff against the ESPiN bias depends not only on winning out but a bit of help from the B1G. Yesterday was a trainsmash of note. The B1G will go from nearly #1 on all of the computers to 3rd or even lower. That puts a real dent in the "we played a tough conference schedule" talk. Ohio State winning out is not guaranteed but holy smokes, what a bloody let down.

Simple - media - tradition

But how can that be when Ohio State has clearly been the better program for the last 20 years?

Simple - media - tradition - the media loves the ND market and lives in the world of Knute, Ara, and the first few years of Lou.

Here's a scenario for you....

Clemson goes undefeated
Notre Dame goes undefeated
Oklahoma goes undefeated
Georgia loses one game (to Notre Dame)
Alabama loses one game (to Georgia in CCG)
Louisiana State loses one game (to Alabama)
Ohio State goes undefeated, best win is Wisconsin (twice)

Guess where Ohio State finishes in the rankings? I'd say #7....

Christ, it's week 3 and you guys are already bumming me the fuck out. I get it, little chance of a one loss playoff berth, but how many undefeated seasons has this program had?...

It's hard to enjoy CFB when, after months of anticipation and only 3 weeks in, your chances at a title rest on having a perfect season.

The Bucks won yesterday and looked very good doing it. Offense, defense, and special teams all scored. No injuries. Tsun struggled against BYE, barely managing a tie. I'm happy.

Eh I'm just enjoying the ride right now. Even if the team loses, as long as A) we aren't getting obliterated in the process and B) we don't lose to SCUM, I won't be too upset. Last year was mostly a miserable experience until the end because the team looked like warmed over ass for 3/4ths of the season and it felt like waiting for the inevitable axe to fall. A lone off game isn't going to ruin my enjoyment of this team.

Actually, I think we get in, but at #4, no matter how dominant we look and how mediocre Clemson, Alabama, and Oklahoma look.

Dantonio should be fired on the spot for bringing back anybody from last year's offensive staff, let alone all of them. This fool thought musical chairs was going to fix his dead dick offense. Eagerly awaiting Valenti next week.

If they don’t make this...#valenti

This has to have been Valenti wet dream week...dUMb in OT against Army, Lions blow a 24-3 lead to tie, and now Sharty

Mike Valenti's incoming Michigan State rant should be a doozy.

Anybody think we might see some links to Valenti in the MSU thread tomorrow?

There are already posts in that thread eagerly anticipating Vicious Valenti Vexation Venting with Vituperation

I know this probably belongs in the ESPN thread, but it sort of relates to LJB's above post. EsecPN lists four SEC teams as "top contenders" and the #1 conference with a chance at getting (a) team(s) into the playoffs. As expected, the ACC is next, with Clemson as the sole "top contender". They do have the B1G as the #3 conference with Ohio State as the sole "top contender". The Big XII is #4 with Oklahoma as their sole "top contender". The Pac 12 is last with Utah as their "top contender". So, the $EC has as many "top contenders" as all other P5 conferences combined. Yep, no bias there...

I know, but this is the state of FBS. Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Ohio State have a stranglehold on the playoff, which means five teams in a beauty contest for four spots. This year might include Notre Dame and LSU. And the rich will only get richer as 5 star prospects flock to the programs that crank out NFL talent and are talked about on ESPN everyday.

Nothing will change unless it expands to eight or goes back to two.

Say what you will about the BCS, but at least the computers kept ADs and HCs honest about scheduling one real tough OOC opponent. Bama and Clemson are milking the current system because they can and know they won’t be punished for it.

It’s almost unfathomable that Miami, Florida, and Tennessee have been this bad for this long.
