CFB Weekly Thread 2019 Week 5 CFB Open Thread

ESPN actually had a good segment after the game with Trevor Matich breaking down a few big plays where it was evident Fields is being given half-field reads with a shallow, middle, deep, and run option, and it’s pretty obvious his head isn’t turning to scan the field — Day and Yurcich are easing him into the offense and setting him up to succeed. His troubles really come when he gets TOO much time and starts looking for options on the backside of the play.

A little aside, for those who have subs to The Athletic, there was a really good article today on UVAs new AD, who was formally the associate AD at Georgia. She took her AD team to Georgia for a field trip to show them why they need to spend money on football facilities and assistants and not just settle for being ahead of Wake at the bottom of the ACC in football spending. She knows football drives the entire athletic department revenue bus (and UVA has been winning in a lot of other sports, aside from the football).

Bronco Mendenhall previously had 2 (and a volunteer) staffers for S&C and nutrition at UVA. The NCAA allows five. He now has five this season. He’s quoted in the article as saying she’s the first AD he’s ever had that answered every question with (paraphrasing), “I know, it’s unacceptable, I’m working on it.”

UVA has always had the donors, sounds like they now have a competent HC and AD to grease the money wheels.

Beautiful stadium too. I always liked the old school feel of letting students sit in the grassy hill next to the field

It would still be a boon to the B1G if they can entice Virginia to join the B1G in a few years....
