2020 Team Discussion Thread

I was tempted to start a new thread to discuss Buckeyes and Covid specifically, but I think it is pointless. This just ain't going to happen. You can't come to a full stop every time there is a positive test or even an exposure. Can't believe we decided to risk CFB in a gamble to restart the economy.

What we will probably need is a thread to sort out the results of no season on eligibility and early departures.

Most talented team in my long life and and they are likely not to see the field.

And if I was going to do a FIFY on the post above it would be to add a couple hundred more "FUCKs".
Yep and that's why we aren't having a season. If we are going to suspend everything when a kid gets it then just send everyone home.

Not being a bitch about it either... you either have to accept that kids will get covid if they play or you have to cancel it all. Can't have it both ways.

As for most talented? I think that was last years team IMO.

Actually talked to Dallas Gants' dad earlier tonight, he said he talked to the coaches and Dallas about the workouts being suspended. Dallas is upset because he loves working out. One week was what was discussed. Beyond that is going to be brought up next week. And for reference, Mr. Gant looks like he could run out on the field right now and not look out of place. Definitely see where Dallas gets his work ethic from.

If they go to a conference only schedule and possibly make it 10 games, I wonder if they'd add Minny, Purdue, or Wisconsin.

Multiple sources have indicated to Lettermen Row that the Big Ten is likely heading toward a shortened, conference-only schedule, a result that has been likely for months even when the pandemic outlook was trending more optimistic. But it’s impossible to deny that the Buckeyes shutting down the Woody is a step in the wrong direction, and their status as one of the true powerbrokers in the sport will cause every other program to do a double-take as it tries to figure out what to do this fall.

SKULL SESSION: SOCIAL MEDIA RECRUITING IS VITAL DURING THE PANDEMIC, AN OHIO STATE VICE PRESIDENT BEGS STUDENTS TO STOP PARTYING, AND QUINCY AVERY WOULD TELL JUSTIN FIELDS NOT TO PLAY IN THE SPRING

FUN POLICE.
Ohio State's vice president of student life, Melissa Shivers, drew the short stick and now has the unfortunate and impossible task of convincing college students to refrain from partying.

In all seriousness, I have a feeling this is going to go over about as well as when I was in school and her predecessor politely requested that we all stop jumping in a frozen pond. She tried her best, and even erected fences to stop us, but then a guy delivered the Braveheart Speech, we kicked down the fences and that was that.

Personally, I think that the students definitely should stop partying – I can think of fewer better transmitters of The Very Bad Virus than shared cups of warm beer – and I certainly don't fault Dr. Shivers for her earnest efforts. But when I was in school, it took somebody dying to get us to stop doing something that was very clearly a much worse idea than gathering as a group for a house party. Nothing's going to change after this.

Do I think it's particularly wise to throw bangers amid a global pandemic? Of course not. But college students have never been accused of being wise, and if Ohio State's only gameplan to stop it is a YouTube video from a vice president, then folks, I think we should probably pack it up and go home.

I sure hope that they listen, but the reality might be.....

Big 10 to announce they are going to an 8 game conference schedule only. Announcement shortly.

This will be the only way to have a season this year, and I applaud them for doing it.

Every conference needs to cancel OOC games, and focus on an 8 game season, if we are going to get anything at all.

This will give the conference (4) extra weeks to plan/practice, and come up with contingency plans.

For example, if an outbreak happens on a specific campus, they can utilize other stadiums to hold a game...

Hypothetically Nebraska is to play Michigan State, but East Lansing has an outbreak.....if Michigan is away, their stadium could be used to hold game. Or game would default to Nebraska.

It's going to be a funky season, but it's better than nothing.

This will allow Big 10 additional time to see if they add Rutgers or have them sit season out.

BIG TEN TO PLAY CONFERENCE-ONLY SCHEDULES IN ALL FALL SPORTS, INCLUDING FOOTBALL, FOR 2020

Per Thursday's announcement, ”Big Ten student-athletes who choose not to participate in intercollegiate athletics at any time during the summer and/or the 2020-21 academic year due to concerns about COVID-19 will continue to have their scholarship honored by their institution and will remain in good standing with their team.”

Hey, when I was an Ohio State student everyone just played a 9 game schedule.

I’m in recruiting forums a lot so I have to watch my potty mouth. But here I am in an open thread and I can comment about the real possibility this piece of shit, fucking virus very well might cost us a fucking college football season and it’s just about the worst fucking news ever.

So I can just say......what the fuck man? Damn it to hell. This sucks ass.

I agree brother 110%. Everybody on this site that knows me knows that I live for CFB season. And if we lose this season I'll probably start crying my eyes out right after I stop puking my guts out. But, this Covid shit IS real and probably is not going anywhere anytime soon. I've had it for almost a week and I'm not getting better (although I'm not getting any worse). It's obviously alot harder to kick than a typical illness. I haven't been sick with as much as a common cold in over 7 years yet this just doesn't want to go away. A person with a compromised immune system who gets this could be in for serious problems. Those are the people we all need to think about. It does stink, but sadly it's the "new normal" we're all going to be faced with for the unforeseeable future.

Peace, and stay healthy!

Really sucks to hear you have it get well!

Also yes this unfortunately is our new normal. All I can say is how special that first game will be no matter when the game is.
