Let’s be honest.....if you want to point a finger it’s at secondary where they’ve bee vanilla as hell. The talent is there which is why I continue to believe we make playoffs.

but people need to be fair over what they’re seeing. Elite level DB play is not happening in 2020: enjoy what we do get.....

We lost a ton of NFL talent need to take a deep breath and know this year is basically roll the ball out and play year not much staff can do with circumstances.

The problem is, we have elite level talent. Those guys are studs but for whatever reason aren't crapping when its time go get on the pot. For example, almost player for player, all of our guys as prospects are better than any of the guys who are at UC on the back end but they are playing LIGHTS OUT with supreme confidence, while we look lost and unsure of ourselves. There is a disconnect

Loss of talent is not an excuse in my book, this is tOSU, we have had consistent top 3 recruiting classes for the past 5 years.

Departures of talent are the norm at Ohio State and I agree can't be used as an excuse for under performance when we recruit like we do. But I will say only playing 4 games on a sporadic schedule with cancelations hurts getting confidence and meshing for our new secondary. Aside from Wade, there is a considerable dropoff from last year in talent and losing Brown hurt and with hardly any games, we're likely going to be experimenting in the secondary the rest of the season, which is obviously not ideal. The front 7 on the other hand has a TON of game experience and it's no mystery why they're outperforming the secondary.

Back to Browning, gotta enjoy his last game here, looks like he finally put the talent together with a better understanding of the defense and the game. Hard to think all of Browning, Hilliard, Borland and Werner are all gone after this year. That's going to be tough to replace even with how well we've recruited the position.

Isn't Tyreke Johnson one of the highest rated corners we've recruited since Okudah?, now guys who've had actual game reps, I get it, but its the coaches job to coach them up.

On Browning, our best bet moving forward as far as pass rush needs to be some sort of combination of Browning and Harrison.

Johnson was a 5 star, that one is a mystery and he needs to step up in a big way. Might as well get him out there. Not as highly ranked as Okudah but close. Agreed on Browning in the pass rush, need to keep blitzing him.

IF we make the playoff, from what we’ve seen, Clemson and Alabama would roll us.
Eh Clemson looks just as Vulnerable on defense as we do. That'd be a shootout. Bama looked bad on D at the beginning of the year but seems to have found something recently but of course they haven't played anyone with near our weapons in that stretch but I'd definitely feel better if our D showed any kind of of improvement these next few weeks.

Players aren't here for 5 years.
Grinch/Taver didn't bother to recruit a corner for an entire year. 3* Shaw was the entire recruiting class at DB.
They simply don't have enough bodies. They need all of their 5* and 4* to be perfectly ranked, and that's just not realistic. 5* are exciting because they only fail to live up to the hype 45-55% of the time.

5* Wade - stud
5* Johnson - bust
4* Williamson
3* Banks

The rest are true freshman, two 3* and one 4*. None were expected to make an instant impact.

Not available:
5* Okudah
4* Riep - expelled
4* Brown - injured

Flipped elsewhere:
5* Battle - Bama
4* Phillips - Utah

Phillips really hurts when you look back on it.

I will add that I think this years secondary is talented enough but for whatever reason we aren't preventing the big plays. It's either coaching or players because it's not scheme. As Day said our scheme is built to prevent these.

I just want to see no big busts for TDs today.

Hell of a performance today. Front 7 was dominant against the run as usual. DTs were absolutely dominant today, Garrett especially by Togiai was also a nightmare for MSU. Ty Smith was all over the place. LBs were also dominant, Werner and Browning were incredible. Gant and Pope had some moments. Then the secondary... with MSU having awful QB play, I can't sit here and say we have anything fixed. But the play was markedly better even having said that. Banks in particular played an outstanding game today and I think he has his swagger back. Hooker played much, much better. Wade looked phenomenal and like the 1st round pick talent that he is. Hickman I'm very intrigued by, dude can run and is very eager to fly into a take and make a play. Hope we get Proctor back soon but I like what we saw today.
