Let's go baby!! Love this weekend!!

Hoban is peaking right now, I don't see them ending the weekend without their 6th title in 7 years
Ursuline/Clinton-Massie, really an offensive powerhouse versus much better defensive team, but if the weather stays the way it is gimme Ursuline
Badin has 6 shutouts this year, that's awesome, but Chardon is perfection and a powerhouse that can't be stopped from 16-0
The most even matchup of the weekend, honestly I have no clue. Going St. Ed's just because the sharks probably have them as a -1
I never bet against Marion Local
    I never bet against Coldwater
Probably the most exciting matchup of the weekend, glad it's closing the show. Versailles only lost was a 2 pointer on the road @ Marion Local....but this is the year of NE OH, Kirtland by 3

I don't remember Ursuline losing in the finals. I also wouldn't bet against St. Eds. Hoban has turned into an elite powerhouse.
The only team I can recall beating both Marion and Coldwater in the finals is....Kirtland
Chardon and Baden may be the biggest toss-up

Yeah seeing Ursuline is always bittersweet, thinking back on their back to back to back titles with Jamel Turner. It both feels longer than a decade and not that far back at the same time, I must be getting too old.

Hoban graduated a ton of last year's State Championship team. Then this year had the luxury of facing St Ed's and USA today #6 Bergen Catholic. They have a lot of underclassmen starting with a major workhorse RB named Sperling.
A talking head had an interesting, common sensical comment about Hoban being a perennial powerhouse. "They play 15-16 games every year since they always seem to be in the championship. Those additional 5-6 weeks are invaluable reps to up and coming underclassmen getting ready for next year". They also have a college level strength and conditioning facility paid by alumni donations. Next year they should be superb.

Are you a Hoban grad, NJ?

    Winton Woods over Hoban, 21-10
WW's defense was too good, Sperling played well but that was it, dominate performance against their QB, well earned!

    Clinton Massie over Ursuline, 29-28
CCM scores with 45 seconds left and goes for 2 for the win, and favor fortunes the bold!

    Chardon over Badin, 21-14
Chardon goes back to back....first ever Ohio school to go 16-0, and with last years 12-0 that makes 28 W's in a row for the Hilltoppers

    St. Edward's over Springfield, 23-13
St. Ed's 4th D1 title in the last 8 years, denies Springfield their 1st ever

Marion Local over Newark Catholic, 42-7
8th title in 11 years, 6 playoff games combined for them to 220-28. Honestly I feel bad for the other DVII schools.

    Carey over Coldwater, 26-14
The upset of the weekend, although WW's win is up there too. Carey started the year with a L and rattled off 15 straight...denies Coldwater a back to back and gets their 2nd state title ever, only other was 1975 when there were only 3 divisions so major props to the Blue Devils!

    Versailles def Kirtland 20-16
Wait, did I say biggest upset of the weekend? I immediately take that back. Kirtland's closest game before was an 18 point win...they came back from 20-3 to 20-16 but couldn't get the onside at the end. This is Versaille's 7th state title, first since 2003 though....they had won all of their other 6 from 1990-2003.

Great way to end the year with a couple upsets, close games, the weather cooperated, another successful Ohio high school football chapter to put in the books.

Versailles is really young with a bunch of Sophomores and Juniors. I expect them to be back in at least the semifinals the next couple years. Marion is Marion, but Coldwater loses a lot this year. Happy that Versailles broke that big winning streak. I believe Versailles held it at one time. Maybe Delphos St Johns. I can’t remember.
