Should be interesting to see how everything unfolds for playing time up front.

True freshman JTT/Sawyer/Hall I think are going to get some reps and we have quite a bit coming back as well. For JTT I know he doesnt want to be inside but he'd be a dominant 3tech on third downs.

Oh I definitely see JTT inside on Rushmen package, similar to Joey when he was at OSU. I can envision the Rushmen being:
Harrison
JTT
Garrett
Smith(or Sawyer)

JTT is most definitely going to be rotating inside and outside, Sawyer will mainly be outside, IMO. And Hall will see PT because there are so many DT unknowns outside of Garrett. We still have no clue what we will get out of Vincent and Jackson. Those 2 could be the difference in Hall getting a ton of reps, or sitting and getting in garbage time and mainly playing against lesser competition. But LJsr has a lot of talent to work with, and new guys will step up.

Projected Ohio State starters

Teradja Mitchell: The No. 2-ranked linebacker in the 2018 class, Teradja Mitchell has been waiting his turn behind talented players for three seasons. He has always had plenty of hype surrounding him, but the logjam at linebacker in front of him seemed to hold Mitchell back. Now the path to stardom is clear. Mitchell is a powerful, old-school middle linebacker who can provide a physical presence for the Silver Bullets defense. He’ll certainly be among the best linebackers in the room. Can he become the superstar he expects to be? That is yet to be determined.

Dallas Gant: Another linebacker from the class of 2018, Dallas Gant has also waited his turn to become a playmaker for the Ohio State defense. Gant was slated to break out this spring for the Buckeyes, but he suffered an injury and was out for most of camp, holding him back from securing a coveted starting slot early in the spring. Gant, now healthy and ready for the season, still has a chance to do that in August, and he’ll be a key piece to the Buckeyes defense this fall.

Cody Simon: If the Buckeyes have a breakout star this fall in the linebacker room, it might just be second-year linebacker Cody Simon. After showing glimpses during the odd, pandemic-shortened season last year, Simon was a star during spring practice while the linebackers room was thin and other veterans were out with injuries. Simon has every skillset necessary to be a phenom at linebacker, and he could crack the starting lineup in just his second year in the program. He’ll have to fight other veterans for key reps, but Simon will certainly be in the mix to break out and become a component of the Buckeyes defense.

Projected Ohio State starters

Sevyn Banks: As the season went on last year, Sevyn Banks began to emerge as the top cornerback for Ohio State. Banks gained experience by starting opposite of Shaun Wade last year when the Buckeyes secondary was at a historic low. And although there were growing pains, Banks showed he can be an elite cover cornerback. Banks is emerging on NFL draft boards as a potential first-round pick next spring. He can solidify himself in that conversation with a strong final Ohio State season, locking down one side of the field like the first-round Ohio State cornerbacks before him did.

Cameron Brown: Last year was slated to be a huge breakout chance for Cameron Brown, but he tore his Achilles in the second game of the campaign. Brown went through his rehab and appears to be healthy again, ready for a second opportunity to show he’s elite. Brown has the skills necessary to shut down opposing wide receivers when he’s healthy. If he can prove he has fully recovered from the setback last season, he’ll be a starter for the Buckeyes — and an experienced option at cornerback.

Ryan Watts: Kerry Coombs used a three-man starting rotation at cornerback during his first stint at Ohio State, and Ryan Watts may force Coombs to do it again this fall. Watts has the size, speed and range to be the perfect cornerback in a Coombs defense, making him a prime candidate to be the third cornerback in the rotation with Banks and Brown. An interception in the spring game and an impressive spring overall propelled Watts into the conversation. Now he has a chance to stay in the starting spot and shine — and begin to build as the next elite cornerback to come out of Ohio State.
