OHIO STATE HIRES FORMER MIAMI (OHIO) HEAD COACH JACK OWENS IN ASSISTANT COACHING ROLE

Chris Holtmann has made his first assistant coaching hire of the offseason.

Former Miami (Ohio) head coach Jack Owens will join the Buckeyes' staff, the Ohio State head coach told Eleven Warriors, replacing outgoing assistant Tony Skinn, who left the program after one season to join Kevin Willard's staff at Maryland.

Owens was the RedHawks' coach for the past five seasons, amassing a record of 70-83 and going 14-18 this past year. In 2020-21, Owens led the team to its first winning record since 2009. Before his tenure at Miami, Owens spent nine seasons on staff at Purdue, spending three as an assistant and his final six as associate head coach.

I like promoting Jake and have him running the offense. Makes sense.

I don't mind if we promote Netti into the "personnel" coach role. He has assistant experience and I think would do well in that Schrage-type role. I also believe he could recruit well enough. If Holtmann goes another way, that's cool, too. But I wouldn't be upset if he promoted Netti, IF...

He goes big with the other assistant hire. We need a Knowles. We need a guy who will pour a lot of heart and experience into fixing this D. If they can recruit well, too, so much the better.

Apparently Netti is still under consideration:

His addition leaves one open spot still on Holtmann’s coaching staff. A leading candidate is already within the program: Mike Netti, who has been with Holtmann at Ohio State for all five seasons as special assistant to the head coach. Netti was an assistant under Holtmann for three years at Gardner-Webb and then was an assistant at East Carolina for four years before joining the Buckeyes in 2017.

Liddell + Branham + Young

We have 3 of these to fill... big ones

Depending where you look, we've got a top 10 recruiting class coming. That should be a nice infusion of talent but Young and EJ's leadership is gone.

That's another reason to like the Holden transfer as a senior.
