Coach Holtmann emphasizes kindness in a way few coaches do. This builds team spirit and a sense of family. Without talent that helps a team do better than expected; with a lot of talent, which this roster has, it can lead to championships. Not predicting it; just saying if it happens it won't be a shock.

We’ll, you’re right about one thing - I did read it here first.
Because of the freshmen, this team has a tantalizing ceiling, but also a very low floor.
Need the freshmen PG and C to be good immediately or we will have some big holes. I also see this team as middling to below at defense and 3 pt shooting.

College basketball transfer portal: Examining the potential role for each Big Ten addition

G Isaac Likekele: Likekele can be the anchor of an Ohio State defense that's been a problem recently. The Oklahoma State transfer is tough, hard-nosed and won't back down from anybody. He refuses to get beat off the bounce. Likekele's offensive game is what it is at this point. He's legitimately built like a linebacker, so hiding a freshman on him would be a bad idea because Likekele can take him into the paint and show him what the weight room is. Ohio State basically has a brand new team, so Likekele can put his fingerprints all over it.

G Sean McNeil: When McNeil is asked to make catch-and-shoot 3-pointers, he's an awesome role player. When he's asked to initiate offense and get everyone involved, he struggles. Ohio State will tailor its expectations to fit his strengths because the roster is deep and talented. McNeil might be the best shooter in the Big Ten.

F Tanner Holden: When Ohio State is in a funk offensively, Holden might be able to get them out of it by just getting to the charity stripe. Holden shot 78.9% from the line on 7.8 (!) attempts per game last season at Wright State. The 6-foot-6 forward is not much of a 3-point shooter, but he should earn plenty of playing time this year.

Following last year's thrilling upset victory over Mike Krzyzewski and the No. 1-ranked Blue Devils in Columbus, the two programs will run it back in 2022 as Ohio State is slated for a rematch in Durham, North Carolina.

The Buckeyes have another high-profile non-conference contest scheduled against Duke's archrival in the forthcoming season, as Ohio State takes on North Carolina on Dec. 17 at Madison Square Garden as part of the CBS Sports Classic.

Just sayin': What are the odds of Ohio State beating Duke in Durham this coming season?

Probably not good; however, Duke does lose a "ton of talent" from last year's team:

The Buckeyes are going to have a very interesting roster outlook. They only return 12 percent of their offense from last season (mainly due to the loss of E.J. Liddell and Malaki Branham), but there is an argument to be made that they are one of the more talented teams in the conference.

They went out in the transfer portal and got Sean McNeil, Tanner Holden and Isaac Likekele — all guys who will either start or be first off the bench. They also are bringing in the sixth best recruiting class in the country, according to 247Sports. At least four of their five freshman coming in will also be playing minutes off the bench. Plus, there are returning starters and rotation players like Zed Key, Eugene Brown and Kalen Etzler, who redshirted last season but looks ready to go now.

However, no matter all of that, Sueing’s role is still expected to be huge and Towns is expected to make some sort of contribution to the team, mainly on offense. If they can stay healthy, and at this point it is a big if, these two guys are the X-factors for the Buckeyes. Sweet 16 you say?

Actually I would say with Duke being extraordinarily young and OSU having far more veterans, plus a very early season matchup, the chances are better than "not good" for OSU to win that game. Carolina probably should be preseason #1 so if you want to call that one a loss, I'm not going to argue with you.

I think this is a team built for regular season success. They have a lot of experience & a little bit of everything except for a tall, strong post. Just not sure of they have the NBA talent to beat the best of the best when the going gets tough. I see Thornton and Sensabaugh being significant players for the team this season. Key, Sueing and the 3 new transfers are all going to have big roles as well. This team will do very well in the B1G, provided they are healthy.

It's really hard to know what to expect. This team is mostly new parts and the parts that aren't new either didn't play last season (Sueing and Towns) or haven't yet emerged as surefire starting material (Brown). Zed is probably the one safe bet to start.

The freshmen class is really good but are any of them ready to have a big impact?

The transfer class is very solid but I would classify them all more as quality role players as opposed to complete two-way guys, though if Holden's game translates really well up to this level, then who knows.

Probably the biggest question, though, is how do all these pieces come together? I like that the Holtmann and the staff have given themselves plenty of options to work with, but they're gonna have to do a LOT of work to maximize what they can get out of what they got, and they are going to have to be very flexible throughout the season in recognizing which players/line-ups are starting to work better than others.
