PG Demetrius "Meechie" Johnson, Jr. (transfer back to tOSU)

Neither Ohio State nor Meechie Johnson Jr. let up during his basketball recruitment
GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — Demetrius “Meechie” Johnson Jr.'s arduous spring and summer reached an epiphany last week in a gym.

He received another call from Ohio State men’s basketball assistant coach Ryan Pedon, offering encouragement as Johnson rehabilitated the ACL torn five months ago during a second-round district tournament game.

All of the big schools checked in with Johnson. Someone from Duke, Michigan State, Kentucky and Miami had contacted Johnson a few times, he said, but Pedon never let up. Perhaps it was his comfort level with the family — first meeting Johnson’s uncle, Juby Johnson, as a graduate assistant at Miami (Ohio) and then coaching his father, Demetrius “Mechie” Johnson Sr., while at Kent State.
Ohio State soon followed, but never left Johnson’s ear. Not after the Buckeyes earned Gaffney’s commitment last year, or when Johnson averaged 23.0 points per game while leading Garfield Heights without Gaffney.

The thought of playing together again in Columbus excites Johnson.

"He called me and said he hopes to play with me again," Johnson said. "We're going to reunite and do some big things."
"It's going to be exciting just to see two guys who played well together continue that," Sonny Johnson said of his nephew and Gaffney. "You never know, you might see some more Garfield kids up there."

He referred to Meechie’s cousin, Sonny Jr.

I am not against ESPN's HSBB recruiting coverage but how the heck do they not have Etzler as being committed to OSU? That's the kind of stuff I'd expect from their football recruiting coverage.
good question. i even debated posting the tweet since espn's basketball recruiting coverage is easily the poorest compared to 247 and rivals. i don't think finkelstein, biancardi, and borzello even travel to aau events.

ESPN is horrible for college basketball stuff. The RPI is now defunct, but they weren't even using the right formula for providing their own calculations the last 5 years or so that it was being used. I guess they didn't want to link the official RPI at the NCAA site, but at least get the formula correct.

This might be interesting in a couple years what they play against each other.
GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — Within a few years, cousins Sonny Johnson and Demetrius “Meechie” Johnson Jr. could be playing against each other in the Big Ten.

Sonny Johnson, a 5-foot-11 sophomore point guard from Garfield Heights, announced Monday he is committing to Penn State. The decision comes on the heels of him suffering an ACL tear two weeks ago in a 21-point win against Lorain.
