39 Year Old USC Walk On

Mili-Yeah- I guess you're right... but it still would apply to the baseball players turned NCAA football players... also.. I read the by laws... and if you are in the Military and enroll in a School fulltime at the same time... you're probably toast.

I think there is another part of this being overlooked in the above discussions.

The "Clock" issue is when you are a full time student. So when I was at OSU
as a full time student, My tOSU clock was running ....(I guess this is the equivalent of our female friends Biological Clock ... the guys football clock)

Anyway ..... I don't think age has much or anything to do with when this event happens ........

Now I have my tOSU degree ..... and my clock is wasted as I took 5 years to get my four year degree .....

Now I go into the Rangers .... buff up and want to come back and play football ... But the naswer is NO WAY .... as I burnt my clock time .....

If I never went to tOSU or any other college ..... I have my Original Clock
time left .......... so I can climb on board, and get my clock cleaned by the
scholorship youngsters on a regular basis.

At least this is my misunderstanding of things !

There's no realistic way you could be on active duty, be enrolled full-time in school, and be participating in organized sports, all at the same time. I got my degree by going to night/weekend classes while on active duty, usually taking one or two classes a term. The one time I took three classes in a term, I ended up totally drained at the end of the term...there's no way I could've taken four or five classes in a term and played sports on top of that all while performing my active duty duties (50-60 hours a week).

That would only apply if you were on an athletic scholarship. If you got your degree at OSU (or anywhere else) and didn't participate in a NCAA-controlled sport, then you could try out for the team while enrolled either post-graduate or pursuing a second degree.

Nope, I like Mili's answer. I was enrolled at OSU, but the extent of my athletic prowess was exhibited at the Jesse Owens basketball complex, as opposed to actually suiting up for tOSU. Therefore, Mili's answer makes me happier, because I can still re-enroll at tOSU and fulfill my dream of being an All-American LB. I'll probably wait for AJ Hawk to go pro, however, as I wouldn't want to take playing time away from him...

Scarlet - what say you and I re-enroll for spring classes in 06?

Sorry... It wasn't in the previous link...

14.2.1 Five-Year Rule. A student-athlete shall complete his or her seasons of participation within five calendar years from the beginning of the semester or quarter in which the student-athlete first registered for a minimum full-time program of studies in a collegiate institution, with time spent in the armed services, on official church missions or with recognized foreign aid services of the U.S. government being excepted. For foreign students, service in the armed forces or on an official church mission of the student’s home country is considered equivalent to such service in the United States.

14.2.1.1 Determining the Start of the Five-Year Period. For purposes of starting the count of time under the five-year rule, a student-athlete shall be considered registered at a collegiate institution (domestic or foreign; see Bylaw 14.02.3) when the student-athlete initially registers in a regular term (semester or quarter) of an academic year for a minimum full-time program of studies, as determined by the institution, and attends the student’s first day of classes for that term (see Bylaw 14.2.2).

Also- If anyone is really bored Read 12.2.4.2.3 and explain to me what that means.

I just happened to think, who is oldest walk on/player that ever came to Ohio State. Like Mili said you have to be in terrific shape to come at that age and perform at those levels. The guys have to be ex-rangers of seals with the disciplined mind set to come in and think they can handle it well.

With the type of players that are re-cruited at Ohio State, i wonder what kind of a man of the above, would have an effect on the team if we ever
have a incident such as the one at South Carolina. I commend him for his
efforts. Stay healthy Tim Frisby.
