#5 The Ohio State University vs. Wisconsin, Friday, Jan 3 @ 7:00 PM, FS1

in today's presser, ho1tmann was asked about where the minutes might go with young out of the game. coach quickly went to ahrens, which is interesting since young is a power forward and ahrens... is not. seemed to indicate that ahrens will get solid minutes tomorrow. either that's a good sign in that ahrens has been playing well in practice very recently, or it's not a good sign in that our collective health has been sucking hind tit this week more than has been let on. andre and muhammad were present for interviews today, so i'm wondering about walker, carton, washington, liddell, gaffney, and kaleb.

we better be hitting our jumpers.
coach said they've been dealing with players sick and banged up. apparently, it's gaffney with the flu and washington with the lingering rib injury. explains the reference to ahrens picking up the slack. ahrens and obviously liddell will play big minutes tonight. less concerned about offense than i am the defense. if kaleb and/or liddell get in early foul trouble...

We play defense like we are capable, we should pull it out, but we will miss Kyle on the glass.

Also, I am begging for the turnovers to be kept under 15. Begging. I just don't enjoy watching games where we are turning it over constantly. Wiscy is not the type of team that really forces turnovers but we have had way too many unforced ones ever since Minny.

Spread was 10 last night down to 7 as of right now according to ESPN scores page.
a substantial jump of about 1.5 points happened this morning around 10 o'clock. since young was already known and coach talked about gaffney/washington yesterday, i'm wondering if there is more to the story. perhaps the flu bug has spread and/or washington is worse. not feeling particularly optimistic. being without young is bad enough.

this game is no less than a 3-coater for ho1tmann. a couple coats of chapstick ain't gonna do it. also, anyone notice ho1tmann's grimace recently? he has this half-smirk, half-grimace that you make when you suddenly realize that you trusted the fart a little too much.

He hinted in recent interviews about Ahrens possibly playing more because he has been engaged in practice with a good attitude.
i suspect that ahrens' engagement in practice has been strong since at least mid-season last year, especially when mostly healthy. the difference now might be that ho1tmann doesn't have much of a choice but to play him in key minutes. since washington appears to be battling the lingering injury, we're no better than 6-deep of healthy players from the usual rotation. fortunately, wisconsin is a slow team that's not the most physical, so a short lineup shouldn't hurt as much.

curious to see if the line moves much from osu -7.5 in the waning hours.
