Game Thread #7 tOSU 18, Purdue 26 (Oct 17, Noon ET, BTN)

In the USC game last year, we couldn't move the ball at all. Bad decisions were made. Turnovers happened. Happened yesterday too.

I don't know where it ranks on the totem pole. But it's a problem, has been a problem in the past (not every game), and shouldn't just be swept under the rug. I don't see a problem in talking about it.

In my dream world..the posters on scout and a few here would be locked in a room with Jack Tatum and Woody!

+5000

I would always laugh when I would read scUM boards and see some of the stupid things they were saying. It's embarrassing to see Buckeye "fans" doing the same. Comments like "It's Guiton Time" or "Taylor Graham should start as soon as he comes in" are things I'd expect to read on those scUM boards about their next savior. I'm truly grateful to have this board to go to for intelligent reading.

I don't know if this was mentioned yet, but it really seemed like the D-Line had a little bit of trouble with contain, esp. in the 2nd half. It just really worries me about the scUM Game now a little more.

All of that being said, it was a bad game for us but we will all get over it. We obviously didn't deserve to win, Purdue won this game and made a lot of good plays, and their FG Kicker is ridiculous. I am sure this will be a big wake up call for the team, esp. the Offense, who should know by now they can't rely on the Defense for everything. I think Tressel fixes a lot of the problems by next week, and for some reason I see a different Buckeye team taking the field against Minny. Keep your heads up, the Big Ten Title is still in our sights.

OH!

If we get the field goal, which we did, it is still a 2-possession game. You're still counting on your offense to score one TD AND get into field goal position with 13 minutes left, when they haven't demonstrated an ability to sustain drives all day. Inherent in the argument that you kick the field goal in that spot is that you believe your defense will create 3-and-outs from that point on. My point is, if you believe in your D to that extent, you might as well go for it, because, it's as good an opportunity as your offense is ever going to get, and if the offense doesn't succeed, your reliable D can shut down the Purdue offense and create great field position.

I don't see the argument for kicking the field goal.

Couldn't have said it better myself... You have the best opportunity you've had all game and you're down 16.. Have some balls, take the opportunity and go with it. Would have cut it to 8 or pinned them way deep... But completely inexcusable not to run the ball from 1st and goal at the 3.. I've stood up for the coaching in the past but those calls were downright embarrasing..

This was the worst loss that I've ever seen while watching the Buckeyes. I cannot recall them ever losing to a team that was 1 and freaking 5. 1-5!

Had to listen to it on the radio and therefore spared myself of further frustration. Maybe I'll watch the recording and splice in some plays from earlier this year and last. Couldn't hurt - we live and learn.

I know there is probably a lot of frustration for Bucks fans after the game, but just wanted to give my thoughts. I was at the game, and expected this to be a 20+ point loss for us. We brought our A game and your offense looked out of sync the first 3 quarters of the game. Our offense (especially Joey Elliott) and D probably played their best game of the season and when you combine these things it was a recipe for an upset. By the time Pryor and the O got going in the 4th qtr, it was too late. Pryor had some good pass plays to Small in the 4th. The fellow PU fans I was sitting with were wondering why you guys were not doing that earlier. Pryor just simply has problems throwing the ball downfield. Our D was able to shut down his running game as well for the most part. Wiggs has to be the game MVP, with all the long FG's he made. You guys had a huge presence there, I would guess 60% Purdue fans, 40% OSU fans at Ross-Ade. The story of the game was basically it turned into a turnover fest in the first 3 qtrs, very uncharacteristic of OSU teams to have that many turnovers. I am not being biased but this was a dominating performace by the Boilers in terms of yards gained and first downs. I was really worried that the you guys would pull it out once you got the TD and 2 pt conversion. You guys will bounce back and good luck with the rest of your season.

Thanks for a good post, no offense taken. The Boilers were the best team on the field for 3 quarters and they deserved to win.
