The football showcase series has gotten underway with a Columbus, Ohio regional camp allowing top talent to see Ohio State.

Over the weekend, the Rivals.com camp series was in town as they hosted a camp in Columbus at Hamilton Township High School. Though the weather was a bitter 37 degrees on Saturday, several Ohio State targets, and even commitments, showed why the future of Ohio State football is in great shape. While the Rivals camp may have been a headliner event, more importantly, it allowed for many of the nation's top prospects to get on campus at Ohio State and see what they Buckeyes have to offer. Without anymore delay, here's this weekend's key visitor updates:

Peoples-Jones back at OSU

The county's top wide receiver prospect in the 2017 class according to 247sports is no secret. Detroit, Mich. product Donovan Peoples-Jones has been a house-hold name for Ohio State and is clearly a top target for Urban Meyer. This past weekend, Peoples-Jones was one of many to attend the Rivals regional camp in Columbus. While his performance on the field was nothing less than stellar, earning an invitation to the premier Rivals 5-star showcase this summer, the real news is that Peoples-Jones was once again able to get back to campus for an unofficial visit.

Visiting on Saturday, Donovan was able to see the Buckeyes facilities again, and talk with Urban Meyer.

Donovan himself has stated that he will also be in attendance for the Ohio State spring football game this Saturday. Two visits in a week's span certainly has the Buckeyes feeling great about where they stand with the Detroit Cass Tech star. Ultimately, Peoples-Jones was quoted by Rivals.com's Marc Givler as saying "I know they'll be in until the end" in terms of the Buckeyes. These two visits are certainly steps in the right direction.

Wade visits OSU yet again

A name certainly not new to Buckeye fans is Clairton, Pa. product Lamont Wade. Wade, arguably Ohio State's top remaining defensive prospect still on the board has thought to be a Buckeye lean for quite sometime. On Saturday, the nation's fifth best cornerback in the class 2017 class competed in the Rivals regional camp in Columbus. Putting on a show, Lamont earned the MVP award for the defensive back position.

After the camp, Wade once again made his way to campus to see Ohio State and Urban Meyer. While his visit was only for the evening, things with Wade went just well as usual as he has a return trip set up for next month – which he let be known via Twitter. With the 247sports crystal ball predictions being heavily in favor of the Buckeyes, it seems as if Ohio State is certainly the destination Lamont will choose. Time will tell, but the Buckeyes are sitting very well with the 4-star.

#BuckeyeNation follow my boys ! @dpeoplesjones @Goony_38 they're on campus right now #Select17 Major Key

White shows out for 2017 class

Ohio State's 2017 class is rudely loaded with talent. One prospect, a homegrown product of Olentangy Liberty High School, Brendon White showed exactly why he's a major key to the 2017 class this weekend. Another prospect competing in the weekend regional camp put on by Rivals, White put on a show making some incredible plays over many talented defensive prospects. Committed to Ohio State since October 2015, White projects as a safety for Ohio State's 2017 class, but proved he can certainly play receiver at the next level if needed. The future is bright for the Buckeyes with White in the fold.

Smith receives official OSU offer

Receiving an offer from Urban Meyer and Ohio State on March 21, L'Christian "Blue" Smith, the Huber Heights, Ohio, Wayne High School two-sport stand-out has been a name of popularity as of late. At 6-foot-6, and 205 pounds, Smith has a tough decision to make in the near future. Whether it's basketball or football for his college career, Blue is a prospect to be had. With two full high school seasons still to be played, it was smart for Meyer and Zach Smith to jump on him right away.

Over the weekend, Blue made the 55 mile trek to Columbus where he was with Meyer. Receiving in person his "official" Ohio State offer, it looks as if Blue had a great time being on Ohio State's campus.

As things stand now, Ohio State and Michigan State are even for the 247sports crystal ball predictions, but Urban Meyer certainly won't make it easy for anyone to steal this in-state star.

Quick Hits:

  • 2017 Ohio State commit, Antjuan Simmons of Ann Arbor, Mich. was in town over the weekend visiting his future home.
  • 2017 prospect, Derrius Mullins of St. Francis De Sales in Columbus took home the DL MVP award this weekend at the Rivals camp. May be a step in the right direction in earning an offer from the Buckeyes.
