A photographic journey through the Ghost Town - Chernobyl

That really brings it home. The woman who took the pictures is either very brave or very stupid.. either way I am glad she did it.

I hadn't realized how many people were affected or how long this will last (600+ years?)

Only eight years late but FWIW she was part of a licensed tour group...the claims of sneaking in unescorted were all hogwash to add drama to the story.

Now for the real reason I bumped the thread...

NPO Energomash

A young Russian woman has posted photos of the Soviet era (and now defunct) Energomash rocket plant on her blog and claims to have broken into the plant...complete with scans of threatening letters from a Russian official.

No idea whether that part of the story is true or not but the photos are still spectacular (there are a bunch more at the link)....
