High School A Quick FWIW Regarding Glenville

Yes because kids always tell the truth. Anyone who was following that recruitment at the time knows from a few sources Kurelic, Duane, etc that he didn't have an offer untill very late in the game.
then I guess that makes Ted Ginn Sr. a liar too, since he said he had an offer from all of his favorites on 11/26/01.........what would be the motivation for both Ginn Sr. and Troy Smith to lie about his offers?

"And the last one will be Ohio State in January. He doesn't have the exact date for that one."

"Everybody has offered him."

"Right now I'd say it's between Ohio State and West Virginia," Ginn answered when asked about Smith's leader.

---------------------------------------------

regardless of the fact of when he was offered, or whether it was contingent on grades, etc., it's BESIDES THE POINT..............point is he genuinely liked WVU as his leader, and chose OSU at the last moment, although he flip-flopped between OSU and WVU during the process.........it wasn't because they finally offered him, he didn't make up his mind until after his visit and specifically said it was because that's what his mother wanted..........i don't know how much clearer i can be in illustrating this point...........spin it any way you want but it's all right there in black and white.............i just don't understand why people want to act like every Glenville guy was a stone cold OSU lock from day 1, and ignore the facts and the obvious in the process............it was simply not the case with Troy Smith

now if you want to talk about Lenix that is a different story, he came out and said "this is the offer i was waiting for", and everybody knew that, but it wasn't the case with Troy Smith

I believe Lenix also said that Iowa was his leader even after he got his offer from OSU...so i dont see how the Lenix situation is any different..Either way, until we lose a kid that we want, your gonna have a really hard time convincing anyone from there.

Seems like we're splitting hairs here.
i agree...........splitting hairs as far as when he was offered, etc.........but i'm trying to illustrate the point that Smith wasn't a guarantee to OSU...........others are acting as if it was a done deal, and he was just waiting on an offer, but that's not true

matter of fact, i would say that he probably STARTED the pipeline, he was followed by Hiley and Whitner, then by Ginn Jr., and the newest tarblooders...........needless to say, once we snagged Smith, it helped us in landing Hiley/Whitner, and then a domino effect.............in Duane's recruiting stock report he only had Hiley in the 50-75% range to choose OSU all along up until the end when it become clear he would commit to the Bucks.........in other words he wasn't a guarantee either..........but once a few guys chose the Bucks, it obviously has made it easier to land future Tarblooders...............what if Troy had picked WVU, would things be different? who knows???!

my point is, that people are making this out to be something it is not.........we're fortunate that things have developed the way that they have at Glenville in OSU's favor..........but Chris Pool quotes something directly from Ginn Sr.'s mouth in regards to the "pipeline" and people still can't take that at face value

I believe Lenix also said that Iowa was his leader even after he got his offer from OSU...so i dont see how the Lenix situation is any different..Either way, until we lose a kid that we want, your gonna have a really hard time convincing anyone from there.
it's drastically different, once he got his OSU offer, it was OSU all the way, he made a visit and ended it on his visit..........in his case it seemed that he was naming Iowa to save face in case he didn't get the OSU offer (atleast that's my guess, i don't like to presume).............according to Smith and Ginn Sr. he had an offer all along, and he waited until signing day, a week after his visit to OSU

Mistri try not to take this as a slam because it is not meant as one, but I was just wondering what is your obsession with Glenville and Ted Ginn Sr? You have argued the point that not every kid in Glenville will come to OSU on Bucknuts and now here into the ground. We get your opinion on the subject. Yes you have some really nice lines of print to back your point, but saying things like:

seriously, where do people come up with this stuff???..........maybe you should check the facts before you completely discredit what i've said......my statement was based on the words out of Troy Smith's mouth, not sure what yours is based on.........now for the facts:
does nothing but get you alienated and get others riled up, start slamming you personally, and giving you those red chicklets you hate so much. Your opinion has been heard and noted. Other peoples may differ from yours.

My opinion on the subject remains that a recruit will usually, and has the right to do what is best for them regardless of outside pressure. When a kid is deciding where to go, all of the following influence his decision: Location, Tradition, Visibility, H.S. Coach, College Coach, Depth Chart, Chance to Win, Play Calling, Family, Friends, Childhood Favorites, Area of Study, Campus Atmosphere, Weather, Etc. I tried to bold factors that likely give tOSU an IMMEDIATE edge just by the player being from Glenville. For the sake of simplicity, let's say they choose the school with the most of these factors fulfilled. OSU already likely owns 9 out of 16. Naturally there is a weight to each advantage, but it is still a lot for any other college to overcome.

A "pipeline" such as this is created because it really does usually turn out to be the best life decision, not because a coach is selfishly pushing his will. I'm sure coach Ginn wants what is best for the kids, and I believe other schools legitimately have a shot but in the end we usually just have more to offer.

i didn't take that as a slam.............it's quite simple actually, as i've stated clearly, if not in this post, in others, there are a lot of fans who have these delusions about the "pipeline", and they are perpetuated by fans saying things that aren't based in reality...........so simply, i'm just trying to show the reality of the situation.................opinions are one thing, and everyone will have different opinions on many different subjects, and that's what makes the message board world go round, but in the case of Glenville, i feel like the FACTS have been distorted, and took it upon myself to disprove the theories and misconceptions about Glenville.................it started on BN when one person after another would say something totally off the wall about Glenville, so i felt compelled

and i don't mean to be a dick about this: i understand that you are only trying to help by pointing out how my comments "alienate" others, but please, i don't need to be coached, i fully comprehend the impact of what i choose to say................if i hated red chiclets, or were focused on accumulating green, i'd be more cautious about my words and you'd see me kissing ass................not my style

OK, so no more posts about why'd I get dinged for this? I am not trying to coach anyone... just think it is funny that you say you could care less about your rep chicklets, yet you turned them off when they were all red and turned them back on once you got back in the green. Tells me you care a little. This the last time I'll post on this thread, so not to cause another drama thread.

too late man!! you started the drama!!!................just kidding..........but i will try to make this as clear as i can about the rep: (to the reference locker we go, what clever name will Grad come up w/ for this one)

i've said it before, my ego does not evolve around my rep, i don't CARE if it is red or green........would i PREFER it to be green? sure, who wouldn't..........BUT, when the object of being on this board is to discuss buckeye football and other random subjects with thousands of anonymous people, what is the point of going around displaying the fact that a few people took issue with some of the things i've said and labeled me "scUM"?...............if i'm involved in discussions with posters who don't know me from Adam they may ignore my posts, or have a skewed view of it b/c of the red rep, and that could take away from the discussion...............and when it's green i might as well have it on for the same reason...................but i don't wear it as a badge of pride, and what's wrong with being curious about a ding? or making a joke about it? (such as this one: BN27 just dinged me for the fifth time, goddamn that kid has some issues!!!) <|------------ clarification, i'm not whining, i think it's funny that this dude gets so wrapped up in this shit and makes a point to ding me every chance he gets, therefore i say something about it because it's funny to me, and i like pointing out what a clown he is

as you can see, he favored OSU a few months before signing day, he was previously favoring WVU, he didn't just switch at the last minute because he suddenly received an offer.........and also as you can see his family played a very important role in his decision........after his visit to WVU in December he clearly stated them as his leader, and then:
If OSU had given Smith any kind of offer prior to late January, then it was an offer contingent on grades; Smith did not have a firm offer until late January because his grades were not in order. He was finally given an "exemption", got his offer, went on his official visit, and committed to Ohio State. Similar story to Freddie Lenix and Curtis Terry.
