We were able to catch up with Jacksonville (Fl) Nease standout quarterback Tim Tebow shortly after dinner with his family. Tim is one of the most heavily recruited seniors-to-be in the country and proved to be very impressive off the field as well.
Tebow (6-3, 225, 4.6) boasts a list of offers from nearly 70 schools across the country, but has yet to receive one from Ohio State. However; Tim and his father did make the trip up to Columbus for the Penn State game last year. Tim described the experience as “Incredible, it is a huge stadium and it was definitely, definitely impressive. I got to meet some of the coaches and everything about the experience was impressive.”
The Tebow’s intend to narrow down the list of potential school’s to “a handful” by the start of fall and proclaim no real leaders right now. Tim’s father, Bob said: “it is just too early, we have all these offers and letters, but we don’t know the coaches behind them yet.”
The only camp that Tim is likely to attend is the Elite 11 camp (if/when invited). He is going to spend July on a Missionary trip to the Philippines where he: “will try to spread the gospel by going into schools, hospitals and orphanages.” After returning from the Philippines he prefers to work one-on-one with his receivers at Nease, saying: “these are the guys I am going to be throwing to this season.”
Tim said that his “Mom and Dad have been the greatest influence to me. They have influenced my character.” He added that academics and a fostering attitude are important to him in the school he eventually chooses.
When asked what he is expecting from the recruiting process, Tim replied: “I am looking forward to meeting a lot of new people and to see some awesome places. We are going to try to not get too stressed out about it all and just have fun with it.”
Nease High School runs the spread offense and Tim said: “This summer my top priority is my reads, getting quicker with them, who to go to quicker. We run the spread-4-wide and some option out of the gun. Coach Howard runs a fun offense and it has worked very well.”
Tebow completed 61.4% of his throws last year for 4,304 yards. He tossed 46 td’s to only 6 interceptions.
While the Tebow’s are not ready to name their list of finalists, both indicated that it would be difficult to eliminate Ohio State if they were to offer.
