Akron RB Dennis Kennedy (official thread)

A cople of things,

We should have his act by tomorrow electronically.

The University has not seen a final transcript yet, so they may be some good news there.

I was talking with Doc T. yesterday. He made mention of having Kennedy enroll part-time in the fall to perserve his year. I hope it does not come to that.

It will unfold quickly, as coaches are all taking the next month off. Hopefully Meeks, who is the Achedemic Adv. is not going on vacation

Not to beat a dead horse from the previous recruiting year, but didn't OSU revoke two scholarship offers because of academic qualification issues?

I guess what I don't understand is how the academic admissions group determines at risk kids in approving the offers that JT and staff hand out. Why is this an issue now at this point in time or was it a previous issue?

Can someone explain this?

Good luck Dennis....

I believe that's what HH has said and no, you can't blame Dennis for it. My mother passed away recently and it's been the most difficult time in my life. I know my grades would have suffered tremendously. I'm a 29 year old man and I'm having a lot of trouble dealing with it. It would have been that much more difficult if I was an 18 year old kid. Comparing his situation to Miles Williams or Brandon Barrett, for example, is just wrong.

Sounds like Dennis is working hard to straighten things out so he can get to Ohio State. I, for one, am rooting for him.

Good luck Dennis! He's had a tough road, but I'm sure he'll make it through. Just seeing how badly he wanted to be a Buckeye before, and how proud he was to become one, I don't see any way he doesn't get the academic business taken care of. We'll see him on the field sometime soon!

Sorry to hear about your loss, Nutty.

And Dennis's father fell ill suddenly and passed away quickly, which must have made his passing and the subsequent grieving process even more difficult.

Thanks for the update, HH. Dennis has certainly been through a lot in the past few months, but he is a quality kid and will only be stronger for it. He'll do well, wherever his path leads. Please give him our best wishes, encouragement, and support.

Sorry for all your losses. No matter at what age the loss of a parent is devastating. It is humurous that I thought I was a man when I was on my own at 19. Now much later I consider myself a big kid. With age comes wisdom and acceptance.

As for Dennis and the ACT some kids just do not test well.
The son of the president of my company is bright and does well in regular and honor classes. When he takes the ACT he blows it. He has been through some training class to help him to do better on the test. He has improved but not to the level he needs. He wants to get into honor classes at LSU.

Then there are the guys like me that have never met a test we could not pass. Perhaps it helps when you relax and do not care so much about the results.

I still question what value a national, standardized test provides in measuring success in college and in life. Admissions should be based on multiple criteria with one not preventing acceptance. I imagine there is some scale based on grades and test scores.
