Dynasty fading? Alabama installed as underdog for first time in 73 games

There’s been a lot of talk around college football lately wondering whether or not Nick Saban‘s Alabama dynasty is finally over. And while it’s too early to declare a verdict one way or another, it’s undeniable that the Crimson Tide armor Saban’s charges have worn into battle over the past eight seasons is beginning to show some rust.

First, consider Alabama is just 2-5 against Top 15 opponents since Auburn’s Kick Six in November 2013. You may not have known that stat, but the sharps in Vegas do. And on Sunday they installed No. 8 Georgia, not No. 13 Alabama, as early favorites as the Tide visit Athens on Saturday.

That ends an unprecedented streak of 72 straight games that Alabama was installed as a betting favorite. Alabama hasn’t stepped on the field as an underdog since the 2009 SEC Championship, a game the Tide won, 32-13.

I think I'm with Hstead on this one. This is precisely the game Richt seems to lose once a year.
No that would be someone unexpected like usc(e), uk, florida. I think the mutts have the sun shine on their lucky asses this week, but florida will get them as is right and proper. I won't comlain if uga supplies the butt again though. They do have the power run/statue pocket passer that saban is best at stopping.

This is all bulletin board material for Saban. I see Alabama beating UGA down! UGA has the exact offense that fits into Bamas defensive strengths: a run oriented defense with a pocket passer. That plays right into Sabans hands. Saban has the most difficulty with spread teams with dual threat QBs that hurry up the offense, none of which UGA does. My money is on the Tide. Though this game isn't a solid barometer of their descent, nor will many games outside of the SEC...

I think they're favored simply because they've played a tougher schedule. Even the loss to Ole Miss was good preparation for a game like this.

The upside is - if Nick Chubb comes in and really makes a statement, he would probably jump Fournette as the Heisman front runner.

  • Mark Richt (Georgia): 38-35; .520
  • Kevin Sumlin (Houston, Texas A&M): 12-10; .545

You have almost a 50/50 chance betting on Richt, the nicest guy in the SEC...
