Alabama Crimson Tide (official thread of Football, Fake Championships and Banjo)

I thought he meant the 02 and 06 seasons. 02 - Miami was unbeatable, but Ohio State beat them. 06 Ohio State was unbeatable, but Florida beat them. Or so I am told. I don't remember Ohio State ever playing Florida for the title. As far as I remember, that season had no resolution.

This. Ohio State has been on both sides of the “unstoppable” fence and couldn’t have been more shocked both times.

I don’t put much stock in everyone saying Bama can’t be defeated this year. They have a hell of a team, but that’s as far as I’m willing to go.

I'd add USC 2005... remember ESPN having a whole 'Greatest team ever showdown' between all the historic NC winners spread across several days ... and annointing USC just before meeting Vince Young.

Indeed.

And, who could forget the original ESPN endorsed greatest of all time team, your 2003 Oklahoma Sooners.. who, after achieving the title, promptly lost Kansas State (who then went to the Fiesta Bowl to get smoked by Ohio State) and yet somehow still managed to get to the BCS championship game against LSU (under a guy named Saban? Never heard of him) where they lost again, despite their having been the greatest team of all time.

All of those teams would get obliterated by their own team from the year before.

Speaking of losing; USC 55 Oklahoma 19 ... (if you're counting at home, that's a difference of 36 points)

But, OSU was a laughingstock for losing 41-14 ... (If you're counting at home, that's a difference of 27 points)....

And, of course, Big Game Bob followed that shellacking with a loss to the truck drivers 43-42 and West Virginia 48-28 (though, they did beat Oregon 17-14 in the 2005 Holiday bowl before those two games)

But... yeah... let's keep giving OU and the Big XII every benefit of the doubt.

I never got the 2005 USC "greatest team ever" hype. Even if they happened to beat Texas. They had a defense that I believe was in the 50s statistically. Hardly the mark of a "greatest ever"

If I remember correctly, The title game was played in November in Columbus Ohio in 06.
