Is OSU chopped liver? no...

...is that how coaches recruit against Ohio State? absolutely.

two years in a row the top LB prospect in this state has been whisked away. Future recruits will take notice of that trend. How could they not?? Look if a top in-state prospect goes up north or to Penn State...fine...they keep their midwestern roots and stay in Big 10 country. When the SEC and Texas slap you in the face and take your candy away from you, well...how are you going to react?
I'm tired of 4 and 5 star kids in Ohio leaving because of the rhetoric of other coaches...but when you're 0-9 versus 'God's conference' and you've produced, what? 2 Butkus award winners ever...its like shooting fish in a barrel and I'm sick of it...honestly, why does a kid from Ohio worship a program that, until last season, was largely irrelevant in his 17 years?

I wish the kid the best but, to me, this can't happen in back to back years and it just did and I'm not very happy about it.

I don't really understand your basis for asserting that other kids will take notice of the two player "trend". By the way, tOSU's number of Butkus winners is second-highest (tied with illustrious programs like Colorado and Illinois but ahead of Texas, USC and Florida).

DePriest grew up a Michigan fan in the heart of Buckeye country. When Michigan started sucking, he began looking around for a new favorite team and became an Alabama fan about a minute after they won the NC. Some kids, no matter where they are from or how they are recruited, are just anti-OSU, and there's nothing you can do about it. DePriest was one of those kids. Time to move on....

^ This.

That isn't like you H&G. Been doing some drinking? :wink2:

Many kids live in the now...they don't note nor care about relatively recent past, but what's right now. Alabama is the hot item right now, never mind that they went 4-9 in 2003, 6-6 in 2004, 6-7 in 2006, and 7-6 in 2007. Recall how "Da U" had returned to dynasty in 2000 only to fall in 2004 to the mediocrity in which they're still mired.

Conversely, Ohio State has had 10-win seasons in five straight and seven of the last eight seasons. We've also been ranked eight straight seasons, including six of those eight being in the top five. Lastly, we've played in BCS bowls seven of the last eight seasons, including three national title games.

It's important to remember that DePriest grew up a scUM fan. Like most scUM fans he probably cares more about what happened during leather helmet era than what Alabama did last year.

I am from Ohio and I have lived around the country and have been in Alabama for a long time now. Good luck at Alabama Trey. There are good people across this country including Alabama, but you will never quite be accepted. They take their Alabama football serious. So serious in fact that when Courtney Upshaw (future Alabama starting linebacker) got in a fight with his girlfriend her own father said she deserved to be hit. Produce and they will defend you (and throw their own family over board), but fail to produce and you will be gone. Good luck.

Why doesn't this post have a Buckeye GP sticker on it?
