Alex Grinch (DB Coach Wisconsin)

Five takeaways by the defense and Miami's two Heisman finalists ending up in the hospital won us the national championship.

Maybe its just me, but I think a more accurate phrasing would be "Jim Bollman ran the offense for a team that won the National Championship for Ohio State."

As LVBuckeye said - that defense won tOSU a National Championship.

Good points all, but I can’t believe you guys neglected to credit the best running back on the field that day-Craig Krenzel. How many of his 81 yards came on third and fourth down?

Edit: I took too long…

Warriner might have been Peter Principled beyond his skillset because of Urban's loyalty, and it is also possible that Zach Smith is telling the truth and he's an asshole.

However, Ed is also a fucking fantastic OL coach. He inherited a room that had been completely fucking nuked after 2011 with the exodus of "Block O," and turned a bunch of 3-star freshmen and a TE playing RT into a national championship caliber unit with two future Remington winners at guard and three first round picks.

Combine Bollman’s scouting/likability and Warinner’s development/execution = profit?

Really can't use a natty, won primarily by the side of the ball that Bollman had nothing to do with, to support his prowess as a coach. Unless we're prepared to say that Les Miles was a good coach?

I really can't say Warriner because the difference in the Oline after one off-season was night and day. Bill Davis on the other hand has a solid track record of failure damn near anywhere he's gone.

There are some heavy weight contenders to that crown man. I don't know if I can single out just one.

Warriner, Beck and dildo boy come racing to mind.
Nah can't put Warriner in there. As shit as he was as an OC, he was a FANTASTIC OL coach. Urb might've won a couple more NCs if he could've somehow convinced Warriner to stay as a an OL coach while hiring a legit OC/QB Coach.

For me it's probably a three way tie between Beck, Davis, and Z. Smith. Beck's foibles are well noted at this point. Davis is responsible for some of the worst LB play I've ever seen in my life. Z. Smith's units weren't awful and didn't give games away like the previous two, but his fuckery led a coaching legend to an early retirement. Like these are three of the most disastrous hires I've ever seen in sports.

We really never got to see what Grinch would have done. That pisses me off. But Hafley will be better. Just watch!

Hafley is already better.....

SKULL SESSION: JEFF HAFLEY AND BRIAN HARTLINE ARE TOP RECRUITERS, GUNNAR HOAK PREPS BY HIMSELF, AND THE SHEA PATTERSON TWEET WAS FAKE

BEST DAMN RECRUITERS IN THE LAND
. It looks like Ohio State's recruiting will be just fine under the new regime.

Brad Crawford of 247 Sports ranked the top-10 recruiters in college football for the 2020 class, and two different Buckeye assistants made the list – one on each side of the ball.

2. JEFF HAFLEY, CO-DC, OHIO STATE

Number of commits: 5

Avg. rating: 93.62

The skinny: The Buckeyes' strongest recruiter this cycle under first-year coach Ryan Day, Hafley is helping Ohio State solidify several positions of need with top-end talent. Cornerback Clark Phillips III (La Habra, Ca.) is the fourth-best player at his position nationally while three other Composite four-stars — Luke Wypler (Center), Cody Simon (OLB) and Lejond Cavazos (S) — each have early-impact potential in Columbus. The fifth commit under Hafley, three-star athlete Cameron Martinez, was pulled out of Michigan. As Ohio State's co-defensive coordinator, he'll be under the spotlight on gamedays this fall after the Buckeyes' disappointing campaign on that side of the football in 2018.

My first takeaway is that this is hilariously low for the guy who's hauling in the best wide receiver class I've ever seen. I'm not saying he should be No. 1, but he's currently behind a Notre Dame tight ends coach and another receivers coach at Texas A&M and uh, my glasses may be scarlet-tinted but I know who I'm picking there.

Second, remember when folks were worried about landing defensive prospects? I honestly didn't expect to see Hafley on this list, but given how the past few weeks have gone (and that I would personally sign up to play football for him after hearing him speak at a podium once) it makes sense. The dude hasn't even coached a game yet and my brain is already working out ways to keep him in Columbus longer than like, two years.

Coop is still #1 with a bullet in my mind.

In the grand scheme of things Grinch & Davis fucked up a talented defense to the tune of a whole 1 loss in a season that otherwise saw the holy trifecta of wins in The Game/B1G Championship/Rose Bowl. Sure missing the playoffs sucked but I wouldn't trade a win over tsun for anything short of my kids lives.
