Tried the reverse sear last night. Turned out great and will be my new too cold to grill cooking method. Between the dry aged steaks and the nice bottle of cab there's nothing like spending $30 on a meal that would cost well over $100 in a restaurant. Hell we spent $100 at Gibson's on a giant t-bone, 2 sides, and a couple beers.
Giving it a shot right now with a 3.99 a pound NY sirloin. I have no idea why it's roughly the cost of burger, it's good steak. Couple of baked potatoes, some portobellos sautéed in white wine and a bottle of Malbec set me back about fifteen bucks. Happy Valentine's day.

I'm afraid my wine selection for this meal puts me way past $15. In fact, it puts me way past $50.

Next time try shiitakes instead of portobellos. :excited:

I am a fan of all mushrooms, so I certainly will. Also, I'm on a quest for a decent Malbec under 25, last night was Concha y Toro which was a solid C+.
My advice to you... Move out of the sticks. (Oh wait, that's this whole thread)

If its come to concha y toro... Time to switch to zin. Or carmenere... But yeah... Again it came to conch y toro, so bad carmenere is kinda like bad merlot. It's just full of regrets.

Trust me, I won't be drinking it again. I can't tolerate the stuff. Carmenere is fine, my preference is tempranillo. Think I'm headed there next.

Tempranillo is a solid choice for cheap red. It never quite reaches the level of "undrinkable swill." Which makes me wonder why the good people at Charles Shaw don't use it instead of the little vinegar-balls they apparently pick up near the beach.
