All Time Bucknuts Retard Room Classic

I was going to respond to xevious comment on jnjgrhm, but I think I can tie that in to an answer to Clarity's question.

The little I have seen of jnjgrhm he reminds me a bit of Computerbuck. People could trash him all day long and he just didn't get it. At a pre-cyber-era gathering folks would turn their backs on people like that and walk away. Or they could try other means to get the message across - even fisticuffs on occassion. We simply don't have those same tools on Message boards.

That said, I think 'talking it out' is working pretty well. So long as folks are getting emotional about the topic and not attacking one another personally I say let it go. There will be some nasty exchanges - but we are all big boys. What normally happens if someone does cross the line is that other posters chime in and start critiquing the out of bounds behavior. That almost always works. (It worked on Bucknuts except when the growth was too fast or after they started censuring the very folks who kept their board in check.)

Which brings me back to Computerbuck. He was one category of poster where peer pressure just didn't get it done. Another category is flamers who are here for that purpose alone. Those guys you ban.

Of course, there is also the occassional poster who gets drunk or goes off his medication and comes back the next day deleting and apologizing. But most of us fit in that category.

I agree 100%. Now more than ever it seems that posters are given the leeway to post about any topic on any board they choose, which defeats the whole purpose of having topic-related forums. I feel the same way.

I just thought you were referring to the threads they created on the General Discussion Board which is why I was confused.

Hey, we agree on something! :drunks:

Sorry to revert back to a topic from a few pages back but whatever happened to that Loyd guy that had over 1000 posts in like three days over there? That got pretty annoying.
I think his unemplyment checks finally ran out.

'Tis truly a special day Mili. I'll toast to that too.

Oh8ch,

I think you stated it perfectly here.

At a pre-cyber-era gathering folks would turn their backs on people like that and walk away. Or they could try other means to get the message across - even fisticuffs on occassion. We simply don't have those same tools on Message boards.

In the real world I would have walked away from the an individual like jnjgrhm, or called him an idiot and told him to shut up. I can only control my own actions, but I wish others would have ignored his messages instead of responding to them. It would be great if there was a way to filter out messages or squelch seeing posts from certain individuals but that's not a problem on this board.

Anyway, having said that I don't have a problem with anyone I've seen post here. If a real dispute evolves between individuals on the board it might be nice if someone could step in and arbitrate in a manner similar to how 3yardsandacloud did in one of the threads regarding being banned.

Long live BuckeyePlanet!!
