Iverson to stay with Nuggets for last year of contract

Allen Iverson won't opt out of his contract with the Denver Nuggets, his agent told The Rocky Mountain News.

"Things have gone well for him [in Denver]," agent Leon Rose was quoted as saying of Iverson, who is due to make $20.84 million next year. 'He's looking forward to taking the team [further]."
Iverson had a contract that would have left him the option of opting out of his deal after the season and becoming a free agent.

Screamin' A. Smith is reporting that AI is about to be traded to the Pistons for Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess, and other considerations.

Edit - other considerations turned out to be center Cheikh Samb

Disagree. Pistons weren't winning it with their current roster. I'd take Iverson, Stuckey, Hamilton, Prince, Wallace, Maxiell, Amir Johnson as a top 7 over what they had going.

On top of that, Pistons will be going from having about 7 million in cap space next year to 26 million.

Disagree with the disagree. More AI means less shots for Stucky,Rip, Skunk head, and all.

It may work in the regular season, but not in the playoffs. Those 7 for 23 nights will kill them.

Billups was strong to defend for the Cavs.

I'm not sure why the Pistons needed to make a move this big.

Bottom line is, before this deal did the Pistons truly concern you? Can they hang in a series with the Celtics again this year? How about the Cavs? Even the Sixers?

Sometimes the best moves are the ones you don't make.

This looks more like a move for cap space next season and throwing the fans a bone in the current season to keep them from flipping out about it.

Pistons acquire Iverson, send Billups and McDyess to Denver

The shakeup promised by Detroit Pistons president Joe Dumars after last season's Eastern Conference finals has materialized just two games into the new season.
The Pistons and the Denver Nuggets have finalized a trade that sends guard Allen Iverson to Detroit in exchange for Pistons mainstays Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess.
Young center Cheikh Samb, selected by the Los Angeles Lakers for the Pistons with the 51st overall pick in the 2006 draft, will also be going to Denver in the deal.

Sure, how could they not ? My bottom line is I think the Pistons would be stronger, in the playoffs, with Billups and McDyess than they would be with AI.

I don't think it's horrible, I just think they're losing something.

Detroit is now 4-5 since the Iverson trade after getting stomped at home by the lowly Timberwolves, 106-80.

AI is fools' gold. Everyone gets excited about having him, but they never win anything with him.

It's sad if they made the AI trade for the sole purpose of signing Lebron in two years. I have no fear of Lebron bolting for Detroit. I don't think the trade makes them a better team this year and won't help them in the future either.
