Is there anyone on the board who has seen the movie Napoleon Dynamite thought, "why in gods name was there so much hype about this movie?"

I also recently rented life aquatic and was also disappointed. If i'm not mistaken that movie was directed by the same guys who did Rushmore/Bottlerocket/Royal Tenenbaums, I expected more from them. It wasnt a bad movie, I just didn't find enough humor in the film.
 
I've never seen either movie. I have been wanting to see napoleon dynamite though but I don't know if I want to waste my money. I've had so many mixed reviews about it.

I just seen the move Team America World Police the other day and it's absolutely hilarious. Funniest shit I've seen in a long time.

I haven't watched Napoleon Dynamite, on principle alone.

I own The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, as I'm an avid Bill Murray and Wes Anderson (director) fan. I agree, it's not as funny as Rushmore or The Royal Tenenbaums, and not quite as good, either. I still like the movie though - I don't think it's supposed to be laugh out loud funny the whole way.

As an aside, the soundtrack for The Life Aquatic is superb. Mark Mothersbaugh is a genius.

haven't seen Life Aquatic, so i have no comment...

Napoleon Dyanamite could be one of the dumbest movies ever made... HOWEVER, it is extremely funny... not dirty joke funny, but funny in that the people are so over the top that you can't help but make fun of them... first time i saw it, i laughed a few times... second time, i was rolling... it grows on you...

Napoleon Dynamite was definitely funnier the second time around, because the first time I was expecting a lot more. The characters are pretty good, just slow development in the story line, to which there isn't much of one.

The Life Aquatic may also be better the second time, but I'm not ever gonna know that for myself. I thought it was terrible, considering the cast.

I found ND boring and not as funny as Thump said it was.
I was going to rent The Life Aquatic, but after hearing people say it was worse than Rushmore I took it off my list. I thought Rushmore was a steaming pile as well, but I can't stand Jason Schwartzman.
