Starting it off wondering where King whathisass is...I thought JIMMMAH was gonna win like 10 SBs in Carolina.

I just don't see the drastic increase in upside from Luck compared with Clausen to make it worth $70 million to sign Luck. Now, if the rookie contract scale is re-structured, than maybe it makes sense to bring Luck in.

But Clausen is a 2nd year, pocket-passer, with prototypical size and arm strength coming from a pro-style college system.

Luck is a soon to be rookie pocket-passer, with yadayadayada...

To me, they are quite similar in their upside. The coach just has to be there.

If I am the Carolina GM, I just try to ransom the #1 pick and trade down to get bunches of extra picks so the Panthers can rebuild the offensive/defensive lines. They have talent at the skill positions, but they are just getting manhandled on the interior. Jordan Gross is the only exception.

Maybe the reason that 2 people from the Panthers organization came out saying they are drafting Luck. The trade down only has value if everyone else thinks they are going to take Luck with the first pick.

Absolutely. Do the same thing that the Chargers did with Eli Manning. You know you will take them regardless, and if someone else loves him, they are more than welcome to pay an extra 1st round draft pick, and a couple 3rd and 4th rounders.

I think Luck is the better QB, but Clausen still has a lot of upside (and the fact that he is affordable by being just a 2nd round pick from 2010).

good for him. education is what college is all about. i'm also glad to see the kid isn't getting some patsy degree. architectural engineering?!!!!! are you freaking kidding me?!!!! this kid's brilliant, just like all men named andrew.

seriously though, this shakes up the draft big time. i can see the panthers now trying to trade down and take aj green at 3rd or 4th overall. maybe giving clausen some weapons will improve his play. he couldn't be much worse.

Bengals are all but locked into Green at #3. Of course they will find a way to screw it up somehow.

edit: Oops, the Bengals pick #4. So they could drop to 3, but why would Buffalo move up without Luck there?

good point. maybe they trade down to 9 or ten to pick up jones or blackmon. either way, i think that they should get a receiver to see if claussen is the real deal. so far, he isn't

I agree with the importance of finishing his education, especially at a great school like Stanford, but he should enter the draft and get picked #1/#2 overall...then if it doesn't work out he'll have way more than enough money to either: a.) Live the rest of his life without ever having to really work, or b.) Go back to Stanford and finish his degree on his own dime.

Jimmy Clausen was hated by teammates in South Bend, and he's hated by his teammates in Carolina. I haven't seen Andrew Luck playing with any black eyes lately either.

Being a successful NFL QB isn't just about physical attributes, which Luck has in flushes, but also about temperament, leadership, and ability to process what is happening on the field.

Clausen has some good physical tools, but lacks everything else. The dude sucks. Carolina and the fans want nothing to do with him. John Fox wanted to puke every time he started him. John Fox threw scouting under the bus this year in regards to Clausen being on the roster.

Andrew Luck is about as sure of a thing as you will find. Jimmy Clausen wasn't even close to that coming out.
