Andy Geiger- Retired Athletic Director (Merged all relevant threads)

A number of those individuals have used the same blanket statements regarding tOSU and a few of the employees individually.
for the record, i don't have a problem with what Geiger said, or the fact that he's lashing out............and as GregorlyLee said, what does he care, he's retired...........i just thought it was interesting he would in essence attack all the commentators at ESPN, rather than be more specific or attack the network itself...........then again maybe the reporter didn't put it in proper context

You're, right...we should just let all those other "unimportant" sports play in shitty facilities. Lords knows we don't want to have highly competitive swim teams. :roll1:
well, it would be hard to be "right" about anything since i asked a simple question, and didn't make a statement of any kind.........i don't remember stating that the other sports should play in shitty facilities, and i'm not sure how you infer any kind of a statement from my question.......i just find it odd that the swim facility costs 1/4 of the Schott, which holds 20K people and will essentially pay for itself, while the swim facility i'm sure isn't nearly the size, and won't generate revenue.........just sounds kind of extreme in relation to the cost for the Schott..........was that project that much more important than the WHAC renovation??..............just a thought/observation

While he might be retired, he has every right to care. He should have gone out with the reputation as one of the best AD's the business has ever seen. Instead, and quite wrongfully, he'll be looked upon as cheater, someone who covered up a scandal and threw a 19 year old under the bus to save the mighty giant... which couldn't be further from the truth or what his character is all about. His legacy to those outside of Ohio State fans will be everything but what it should be and that is an absolute shame.

As to why he doesn't just call out one reporter than the network itself, I think this goes way way beyond just a few uninformed (and slanderous) statements by Trev and Mark. This was a networkwide agenda and ESPN as a whole should be called out. I can't wait to hear what he has to say if and when OSU football get a clean bill of health from the NCAA. I'm hoping he rides off into the sunset with a middle finger flying in the air saying "I told you so".

When you say, quote: "why would you put so much money into a facility for a sport that hardly generates any revenue?", it may not be a statement but still an inference that it's a waste of money.

No accountability

Its amazing how "expert commentators"(my word) can make statements, about the ability of a referee to be impartial or whether a football program supports imporper activities, without any accountability. If OSU is found clean there won't be a front page story about it. Trev and et al. will move on to another issue without any mention that they mave have judged OSU unfairly or prematurely. What a great job to have!!!

Some one please tell me they just heard this dipshit on 1460 The Fan. This Gotleib guy is a total numbnuts. He may have pointed out something fairly important and significant with the ref. thing but his response back to Geiger was all you would expect from ESPiN. He started by saying Geiger basically took the wus approach by waiting until he reitired to say anything and not doing any research about the staff at espn before making his comments. He then proceeded to talk aobut the Basketball team and the Football team and their issues, not stating of course the SELF IMPOSED sanctions against the teams.

HE IS AN IDIOT

Does this strike anyone else as funny?? I just can't believe that he said that. Irony at it's greatest...

This is what ESPN has always been hiding behind. They know that an official representative of a University has a hard time attacking them directly without the official approval of that school for anything they might say. They know they can push the limits without fear of a direct counter attack.

The whole retirement thing is crap though. Gotleib said that Geiger waited until two weeks after it happened to "come out" with this story because he is stepping down from his position now. That statement is crap for two reasons.

1. Geiger announced his retirement a couple of months ago if I am not mistaken.

2. The Baltimore Sun approached Geiger about his retirement and the ESPiN comment came from that interview.

Geiger did not "come out" with his comment like it was some big press release. He mearly answered the question honestly and spoke what he felt.
It is a shame that tOSU vs. PSU is going to be on one of the enemies channels!

The best part of what Gottlieb said was that the football program would likely be investigated for a second time. Well, that's great and all Doug. Too bad the second investigation is pretty much wrapped up. This type of comment is exactly why Geiger has a problem with ESPN, and rightfully so... they don't know what the f*&k they are talking about.

This kind of gets off topic, but having spent a couple of years in state politics and a lot of years in education politics I can tell you that there is no stronger bond than that between contractors, trade unionists and those who hold federal, state and municipal dollars. You build a $26 million dollar facility because it scratches the backs of so many important people in your food chain. The money is not going to professors, GTAs, research assistants, librarians....

I don't think that's nearly the reason cincibuck..

You pay $26 million ($26,000,000 for those who want to see the numbers) because we are THE Ohio State University. We have THE largest Athletic department in America. We have THE most varsity sports in America. *WE* are not just mearly a football powerhouse, or a large athletic school, we ARE the largest public college in America. Ohio State pays $26 million to have better facilities than everyone else because our students deserve it. Remember that we don't take money away from the school to run our athletic department, as it is self sustaining (even if it has some debt).

So the punk Gottlieb wants somebody to do some research into his background and character, eh. Okay Doug, this is in response to your request.

Gottlieb came to Oklahoma State only after carefully considering his choices during a yearlong search. Upon leaving Notre Dame two years ago in the wake of a scandal—he pleaded guilty to charges that he made purchases on other students' credit cards—Gottlieb spent a year at Golden West College, a community college in Huntington Beach, Calif., scouting teams on TV in search of one that needed a point guard to step in right away.

This is all I need to know about Gottlieb. Why doesn't it surprise me that ESPN hires a convicted thief and allows that convicted thief to pass judgment on others.

Gottlieb the CONVICTED THIEF

That's great. He fits in well with Lavin, Jarvis and the late Jim Valvano among ESPN's team of rules violators.... errr... I mean analysts.
