Any other Pirates fans here?

Or am I the lone, sad sack throwback to an era when the Bucs were not only competitive, they were one of the league's best? Once again, my optimistic goal is 82-80. :(

I root for the Royals in the AL, probably because their history during my lifetime is reminiscent of the Pirates ups and downs. Success for a couple decades, but lean recent years.

Regardless, when it comes to Reds-Bucs or Indians-Royals, it's gonna be :box: around here. Call me the almost-silent minority. :wink2:

Nope.

I've been a diehard Pirate fan my entire life and I've got to say that picture is just wrong, Tibor. I was 14 and when Bream scored I just cashed it in for about a week; too heartbroken to even go to school the next day. At least we have PNC Park. If I'm going to watch season after season of losing baseball there are few places better.

My dad was a huge Roberto Clemente fan...he still says Roberto was the best player he's ever watched. Hearing his stories and watching highlights has also made me a fan of Clemente, but I don't care for the organization (mostly because I'm a Reds fan).

The best thing about PNC park is that it makes the city look nice...when in fact it's as big a shithole as Cleveburg is.

Go Bucks, and go Bucs. Picksburg's made a pretty good comeback (city-wise, in reference to a previous post - free agency's ruined this once proud baseball organization).

I think what the Bucs need (aside from profit sharing) is to go back to the old-time cylindrical caps.

I have always been a Pirates fan. They had quite a following in Columbus when I was growing up because of the farm system link to the Jets. I agree that Clemente was the best I ever saw. Stargell. Dock Ellis pitching the All-Star game high on LSD. They were hot and good fun! Lots of good memories.

I like the Bucs... too bad the city cannot afford the payroll to compete with the big boys. If MLB would take the NFL's lead, things could get interesting in MLB again... doubt it'll happen... we can dream, can't we???

Sorry to tell all you pirate fans that you guys are going to finish in either last or 5th place in the central.
Really?

Thanks for the insight. :roll2:

Trust me, Pirates fans are well aware of their team's mediocrity...

It would be nice.
I guess we can hope that someday the players will realize that 98% of them will NEVER get a $100 million contract from the Yankees, and realize it's in their best interest to have a competitive league.
