Anybody else have a craving for Taco Bell tonight?

Actually, Indians eat curry w/a sort of bread called naan. I believe curry + rice is a Japanese derivation.

I often eat Indian curry dishes with both rice and naan. And I believe the assertion that 'curry + rice is a Japanese rerivation' is misguided.

From Wikipedia -
Curry was introduced to Japan during the Meiji era (1869 - 1913), at a time when India was under the administration of the British East India Company. Because of that, curry in Japan is categorized as a Western dish instead of an Asian dish.

If you don't believe that various forms of curry were eaten with rice in several provinces of India and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) before the late 1800s, I suggest you do more research on the topic.

darn... my Curry reply got cut off and then lost in the ether.
Anyway, I was using "believe" to express that it was my understanding -- not a fact. So I accept that the "Japanese invention" angle is quite possibly wrong and fed to me by Japanese nationalists. The Indians definitely had rice, so I'm sure they at least experimented. Perhaps Tibs could actually provide some enlightenment on the Curry history.
Anyway, I love curry and this thread has me fiending for it. I think I'll be fixing some tonight... too bad I suck at making Udon. :groove:

I copied back you curry post - it's quoted in my previous post.

It was moved originally because the post you quoted was whisked away.

Aye. I gathered that much... I was talking about the first response I wrote to your post came up with a "you can't post here", and when I hit the back button it was gone. So I had to rewrite.
Much thanks for bringing back your post for linearity though.
