High School Archbishop Moeller Crusaders

The Enquirer - Moeller fires football coach Crable

Moeller football coach Bob Crable was told his contract will not be renewed for next season, Moeller athletic director Barry Borman said Friday.

Crable, who went 48-30 in seven seasons at his alma mater, led the Crusaders to a 7-4 record, including 1-2 in the Greater Catholic League South Division this season.

Moeller lost to Colerain 27-7 in a Division I regional semifinal Nov. 10 at Paul Brown Stadium.

TGIF'd with a bunch of Moeller teachers on Friday. New mood regarding the program. The coaching hours are still long, but they're no longer in the obsessive category. New coach cooperates with other athletic programs, a huge issue under previous administrations. New facilities on school grounds help. Still, it will be tough to compete against a school damn near twice their size with some of the best facilities in Southern Ohio.

It's No. 1 Moeller vs. No. 2 St. X | Cincinnati.com | The Cincinnati Enquirer

Last Updated: 11:30 am | Monday, October 26, 2009

Moeller and Winton Woods remain No. 1 in the Enquirer area football coaches' polls as area teams prepare for the final week of the regular season.

Moeller (9-0), ranked No. 1 in the Enquirer Division I area coaches' poll, plays St. Xavier (7-2) for the Greater Catholic League South division title at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Nippert Stadium.

"This Saturday should be an awesome environment," Moeller coach John Rodenberg said.

The Crusaders are coming off a 40-10 win over host Lakewood St. Edward in Northeast Ohio last Saturday. Senior linebacker Marcus Rush (Michigan State commit) had two sacks - giving him a league-best 10 on the season - for the Crusaders.

"Rush had an awesome game," Rodenberg said. "I hope to win this week just so he has a legitimate chance for state player of the year. He really deserves it. His stats are freakish."

Moeller captures rugby crown | cincinnati.com | Cincinnati.Com

Moeller won the Ohio High School rugby championship last weekend as the Crusaders defeated Parma 19-7 at Crew Stadium in Columbus.

Moeller, which has had rugby for two years, finished the season with a 17-0 record.

During the state final, Moeller sophomore fly half Eric Lalley had two touchdowns that put the Crusaders up 14-0 at the end of the first half. In the second half, Joe Bracken scored off a scrum, which made the score 19-0.

"There were several hundred people who followed the team to Columbus ...," athletic director Barry Borman said in a statement. "Like all the other athletic programs in our school, rugby is quickly laying a foundation of excellence that is contributing to the rich traditions of our school."

Huber Heights Wayne vs. Moeller

WHEN/WHERE: 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Xavier

WHAT TO WATCH: The key for Moeller is obvious: Stopping Wayne senior Braxton Miller, who has committed to Ohio State and is rated as the nation's top quarterback by MaxPreps.com. The Warriors also have senior running backs Anthone Taylor and Seth Stuart and a strong defensive line and backfield. Moeller studied film in the offseason of Ohio State opponents' schemes against OSU quarterback Terrelle Pryor, figuring facing Miller would be similar. Running back Tucker Skove, defensive lineman Jesse Hayes and linebacker Kendall Walker, all seniors, are among the Crusaders to watch. Moeller senior Charlie Fiessinger will start at quarterback, but sophomore Spencer Iacovone also is likely to play.

BOTTOM LINE: Moeller is the favorite in a game televised live on ESPNU.

Rivals High - Weekend watch

ELDER vs. MOELLER

WHEN: Friday 10/8, 7:30 p.m.
LAST MEETING: 10/9/09, Moeller won, 35-13
RANKINGS: Elder (2-4), No. 28 in Ohio
Moeller (5-1), No. 14 in Ohio

WHY IT'S BIG: Cincinnati football, specifically the GCL South, has taken a major hit in perception this season. St. X lost to Good Counsel. Moeller lost to Indianapolis Cathedral. Elder already has four losses, including to Louisville Trinity. This is a game that enters two teams with their backs against the wall coming off dual 35-10 losses: Moeller to Cathedral, Elder to St. Xavier. It is a must-win for both teams but for very different reasons.

BEST MATCHUP: Moeller's run offense against Elder's defensive front. A week off of an impressive win over St. Xavier, the Crusaders looked like they had not played football before, getting blown off the field by Indianapolis Cathedral. Elder barely has been a speed bump for good rush offenses this year and should be tested early and often in this contest. Which team gets the better of that situation likely will win.

ELDER WINS IF: Its defense plays more like it did against Louisville Trinity than it did against Cincinnati St. Xavier. Both games ended in a loss, but Elder at least looked interested in playing against Trinity. Not to question if the team has given up on the season, but if it doesn't respond this week, the season is over in every sense of the word.

MOELLER WINS IF: It can match the Elder emotion. The Panthers are backed into a corner entering this game and should come out playing with their hair on fire. If Moeller can take its best punch early and turn the momentum, it could get the win and pointed back in the right direction. Moeller's time in the RivalsHigh 100 is likely over for this season, but its spot in the playoffs can be solidified in the next few weeks.

PREDCITION: Both teams need this game and only one can claim victory. If it is Elder, the GCL South is a mess. If it is Moeller, as expected, the Cincinnati football world will remain on its axis. The Crusaders have the better team coming into the contest but that doesn't always guarantee victory. The home-field advantage, in this case, does. - Moeller 28, Elder 10

Colerain 17, Hamilton 14 | cincinnati.com

By Jason Williams ? Enquirer contributor ? October 8, 2010

It wasn?t the type of performance the area's top-ranked team has come to expect. But Colerain proved it could overcome adversity and grind out a victory to remain unbeaten.

Led by star quarterback Tyler Williams, the Cardinals rallied for a 17-14 victory against resurgent Hamilton on Friday night at Cardinal Stadium.

"I told our players after the game that, in the long run, this will probably be the best thing that can happen to you," said Colerain coach Tom Bolden, whose team improved to 7-0, including 4-0 in the Greater Miami Conference.

Williams rushed for a game-high 158 yards and a touchdown as the senior broke the Cardinals? all-time career rushing record. He now has 3,231 career rushing yards. Ronnie Alexander (1993-95) had held the record of 3,100 yards.
