Archie & JT say no Thanks to AD

It really surprises me that Archie isn't interested (you wonder if things weren't so hot right now if he'd be interested). It seemed like he was kind of looking to this job as a career move. Plus, he's a great choice.

Tressel taking it would be bad overall. First, if it meant he would leave the coaching position, that would suck for obvious reasons. Second, at a school the size of OSU, it would be really tough to handle the football team and all that it requires along with the AD job.

Based on what I read I was kind of hoping that the Maryland AD, Yow, would be interested. Hopefully there's someone good out there that will be uncovered during the search. Many of us probably wouldn't have put Tressel first on the list for the HC job, and look what he's done.

griffin has a job that is 10x better than being a.d.....the only way he would do it is if his love for ohio state (which is deep) drove him to right the ship....
I think Griffin's love of the University (not just the Athletics Department) is helping keep him where he is...can you think of someone else that can raise the kind of money that Archie can? Every OSU alumnus can identify archie, I can tell you that when a magazine with his picture on it shows up at someone's door they are certainly more likely to write a check

I can't believe the Dispatch mentioned that Bill Hosket is a candidate? WTF??

Nothing like a guy who has NEVER worked in Athletic Administration being an AD at the biggest Athletic Program in the nation.

I guess b/c he's a former OSU athlete that makes him qualified!! :roll1:

Bill Hosket is a successful business man. He has maintain contact with Ohio State since his playing days. He may not have worked at Ohio State but he does know how the place works and who the players are (both within the University and outside influential players). His comment was to the affect that he would listen IF Ohio State wanted to talk to him. Did not sound like he was interested.

Another name not mentioned was Rex Kern. Last time he was mentioned prior to Andy Gieger being hired. He maintained that he was not interested at that time (still not likely interested). Yet everyone wanted him like Archie today.
I just hope they get someone that can keep the program clean. I also hope that they will maintain the overall progress of the whole program (includes the minor non-revenue sports).

Michigan's AD Bill Martin made this statement to the NY Times about the AD position in general:

"I certainly have all the respect in the world for him," Martin said yesterday in a telephone interview. "He represented all that's good in college sports. His integrity is the highest. If he's the fall guy, so be it. It's the nature of the business that we're in today."

Why would Archie (or anyone else, for that matter) want to put him/herself through this?

But seriously it seemed to me that Krebs is perfect having worked here previously and then doing a great job at Bowling Green. While not the same as Ohio State, he has turned around alot of their sports programs and as my brother pointed out to me was smart enough to find and hire Urban Meyer.
But he also allowed Urban to jump ship from one mid-major to another mid-major. You can't tell me BG couldn't pony up the money that Utah paid Urban.

Rex Kern is a great guy (from Lancaster, he has to be)...but isn't he in his mid fifties? I have no idea what he ended up doing professionally, but I don't think he has much experience with something like the AD job and it seems a bit late in life to start picking it up
