Frank Epitropoulos commits to Ohio State
Smith - TheRinger.com - 4/26/2011

The Buckeye staff received some welcome good news today with a commitment from legacy recruit Frank Epitropoulos. Frank is the son and nephew of former Ohio State players John and Ernie Epitropoulos. His mother is also an alum and they currently live about 10 miles from the Ohio State campus.

Many have felt for some time that his choice was a foregone conclusion but other schools were seriously considered. After recent visits with his family to his top four schools (Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Stanford), Frank spent some time over the weekend weighing his options. In the end, his budding relationship with Stan Drayton (WR coach) and family ties won out. Frank called the coaches this morning and gave them the good news.

Epitropoulos: OSU is 'best football program in the country'

By TIM MAY
Frank Epitropoulos proved this morning that Ohio State is still alive and well in the recruiting world, even as the specter of NCAA sanctions cloud head coach Jim Tressel.

A wide receiver and punter from Upper Arlington, Epitropoulos ? his father John and uncle Ernie played for the Buckeyes ? said he committed to OSU, becoming the sixth member of the 2012 recruiting class.

?I chose OSU because I believe that is the best football program in the country with a great coaching staff,? Frank Epitropoulos texted to The Dispatch. ?I feel like I can help them at wide receiver and occasionally punting.?

At 6 feet 3, 195 pounds, he is adept at both. He is considered an outstanding overall athlete by rivals.com which says, among other things, he has been timed at 4.47 seconds in the 40-yard dash (he runs track for UA, and will be competing today) and has a 41-inch vertical leap.

Scout $ Epitropoulos A Two-way Standout

5/4....By Jardy

Ohio State did not have to look far for its sixth verbal commitment for the class of 2012. Frank Epitropoulos, who preps at nearby Upper Arlington, will bring the ability to contribute at a few positions when he arrives on campus next year according to head coach Mike Golden.

You recently committed to OSU. How did it feel to finally make your decision and why did you choose to commit when you did?

I felt relieved when I finally chose OSU because the recruiting process was finally over and now I could focus on my senior season. I committed a couple days after the spring game because going there as a recruit really opened my mind and gave me some good memories as a kid of going there to watch the games. Now I'm going to have a chance to play there.

Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Stanford all recruited you hard as well and it seemed you liked them too. What was it about OSU that made it the right place for you? How much did both of your parents being Buckeyes play a part in that?

I really liked the other three schools but Ohio State is the team I grew up watching and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to be a part of it. I think it definitely helps that both my parents went there and my sister currently goes there, but it was ultimately my decision so I did what was best for me.

You play wide receiver, safety, and punter. Is OSU looking at you at one of those positions or might they look at you at more than one? If so, which positions?

Coach Tressel told me he is bring me in as a wide receiver but if I?m the best punter also then he won?t hesitate to play me at both punter and receiver. He did make it clear that I was being recruited as a wide receiver first.
