ATH Jaelen Gill (transfer to BC, transfer to Fresno St.)

JAELEN GILL
Gill's career likely hasn't gone as he had hoped.

The Westerville native was nearly a five-star prospect, ranking as the No. 30 overall recruit in his class. Yet as a freshman, he didn't play at all, redshirting as Parris Campbell and K.J. Hill took the vast majority of H-back snaps. Campbell leaving for the NFL after last season opened an opportunity for Gill, but Ohio State opted to play more multi-tight end sets rather than use a backup H-back to Hill. That left Gill with a minimized role as a redshirt freshman, not playing in three of the four games prior to Saturday's against Rutgers.

On Saturday, with a 32-yard touchdown catch, Gill tried to show everybody watching what he can do with the ball in his hands. At this point, it's likely too late for him to find his way into this season's receiver rotation. But his dynamism showed what he might be able to do next year.

Yeah, his TD was against Rutgers, but it still was impressive the way he broke tackles. He should be in the rotation (i.e. at least 2 deep) next year, especially after losing Mack, Victor, and Hill, etc. Even though McCall and Wilson return, I would think he may also be a viable option at PR and/or KR too.

KJ Hill is a big part of the offense out of the H, you just know Jaelen is watching and learning how to be the best he can be. But finally getting an opportunity to show what he can do is HUGE. Especially ahead of this weeks practice (where everybody is dialed in) and the opportunity is focusing on those little details.

Of all the decisions that the staff will have to make for next season outside of finding a db coach, I hope they really take a hard look at moving Gill back to Rb, he is the only guy on the roster with the potential to be better than Dobbins or at least get to that level as an all around runningback. With Gill in the backfield the offense next year will be downright scary and we may need that with a defense that will presumably be playing catch up

I agree. We need a nice change of pace option to complement Teague. I’d love to see him have a major breakout party starting in Oregon next fall!

Was he ever even considered at RB? I'm fine with that move, but I thought he was always destined to be a slot guy. But if he can do it, he'd be a potentially great compliment to Teague.

Very interesting idea. I would love to see that personally.

What our offense missed when JK went out was his illusiveness and his bend. Gill would provide that and not to mention would be a serious issue out of the backfield.

Gill is an H. Not a Curtis Samuel H. Not a Percy Harvin H. More like a Paris Campbell H.
