Athletic Director - Accountability

Real world experience tends to make people more selfish and condescending, not more aware.

I call bullshit. I work for a university and interact with the students every day. With few exceptions, the students are all about themselves. Me, Me, Me, I want a parking spot, I want to play golf free, I want better food in the Cafe, I want University money spent on me, not athletics ect., ect., ect. I would counter with the observation that experience may make one somewhat condescending because of said experience, however it does not make one selfish. In fact, knowing many as I do, and being the father of one as well, I can assure you that I don't know any group of individuals as selfish as college students. Both the Lantern article and some of the previous posts should make this fact abundantly clear.

As for comment on this thread in general. AG had to build and upgrade the athletic facilities. It is a requirement. Not only at OSU but at every university. All must build and upgrade academic facilities as well. The problem comes in designing a plan to pay for it. Both AD's and College Presidents have this task. Unfortunatly for those that want to condemn them in the middle of the job, it's my opinion that they can be judged best in retrospect, not after the buildings and programs are built, but after they are paid for. Just my opinion.

I have no clue about accounting but I am going to make all kind of judgements about the financial statements made by the administration. Give me a fucking brake. That writer was an idiot.

When I went to TOSU the rec center was a couple of ping pong tables and a smoking lounge. Now the students are going to have a freeken spa complete with hot rock back rubs and coffee enemas. If I was a student I wouldn't be complaining that someone was going to give me a facility that shamed Miami or OU's facility.

OSU has to compete for students and the rec center and other facilities are going to get them there. This is an investment in infanstructure and is needed to stay ahaed of the other State Universities.

I hope these are triple latte enemas. Otherwise they'd be unbearable.

yeah, no one cares what the students at Ohio State have to say. It's about the alumni. Afterall, we are the ones that donate the money to the players.... err, the university.

All sarcasm aside, i absolutely care what the college students have to say. They are the ones that go there now and carry the torch. Real world experience tends to make people more selfish and condescending, not more aware. Kudos to this Lantern writer (i used to be one myself) for calling Andy Geiger out. He's been screwing the students since he got there. He screwed me on full football season tickets my freshman year, made the price at the Scarlet Course unreasonable, and forced students to only buy split packages to basketball games in the upperdeck. The alumni have no idea what's going on there, and the students do. Why don't you listen to the students for a change?
If $18 is unreasonable I wanna golf where you golf.

And as far as the rec center, the dispatch ran an article on wherethe money was comming from, the athletic department. Im guessing it was the womens hockey team and the rifle team that is paying for a large majority of it. Granted the student will pay $12 a qtr in the winter and that will eventally be raised to $48, still not bad for a world class facility.
