Atlanta Braves (4x World Series Champions)

Update on J-Hey's line:

.302BA 3HR 15RBI .423OBP .581SLG

He had another K today in the Braves' game against the Rockies to go along with his two BB's and 3 RBI, including a walk-off 2RBI single in the bottom of the 9th with the bases loaded on a 2-2 count.

Regardless of what kind of production he puts up by the end of the season...this kid IS the real deal.

The major points of discussion in Atlanta right now is if it is time to move Heyward up in the lineup.

Up to this point, Troy Glaus has been great defensively, but has provided little to no protection for our All-Star catcher, Brian McCan. Many see Heyward as the ideal solution.

Regardless - I don't see Cox doing anything until after this weeks matchup in Atlanta against the Phillies. Huddy, D-Lowe and Hanson on the mound against the defending NL champs who just lost a series at home against the Marlins. Time to send a message! Go Braves!

Problem is you have two lefties back-to-back if you go that route. Glaus mixes up the order a bit, but then again it doesn't mean much if he's not producing.

As for those saying that Heyward strikes out a lot and is going to be an average hitter this year, have you actually watched him hit this year? He is a very, very patient hitter. Sharp as a tack, and he see's the ball at a level that many veterans dream of. It will be a constant adjustment by pitcher, adjustment by Heyward....all season long. Only difference is that he is much quicker to adapt than many other young guys.

I am a big Braves fan and have followed his short track to the majors. He has never tried to be a power hitter, instead he hits for average. For instance, yesterday's walk off hit was a brilliant piece of hitting for a 20 year old. He went to the plate looking for a single, and he got one. Not many guys his age can do that.

Hmm. Hey Red's fans: an outfielder phenom that is patient at the plate but still strikes out all the time. Does that sound familiar?

I kid, I kid. I don't expect Heyward to hit for as much power or as low an average as Dunn. They aren't the same kind of player at all. I'm just saying that sometimes patient hitters strike out a lot, too. Heyward's going to be a fine hitter and all-around player, and I don't expect that he'll be such a strike out victim over the course of his career as he has been already. I only raise the strike out issue as evidence that he's probably going to struggle at times with big league pitching, and that I'd expect that batting average to adjust downward over the coming months. Simply put, I just don't think that, this year, he's going to be the middle-of-the-order hitter that most Braves fans (and others) are trying to convince themselves that he will be. I imagine Cox is keeping him low in the order to keep the pressure off, but as others have suggested, Glaus' sucktastic performance and bad back may force the manager's hand.

Stat of the day: As J-Hey goes, so go Braves | Atlanta Braves

Braves take game one against the Filthies. J-Hey gets a look at Halladay today

I think the kid looks great, but they're getting a little ridiculous on ESPN (I know, who knew). I mean he drew a walk from Halladay last night and they made it sound like he was pitching around Lou Gehrig.

With more strikeouts than Adam Dunn or Mark Reynolds. It ain't lasting, IMO. I'm sure he'll have a fine enough year, but some of the predictions I've read are over the top.

8 Ks in his first 4 games (2 off of Ryan Dempster), 4 in his last 5.

In 5 of the 7 games in which he has a K, he has an RBI.

He also has 6 walks on the season so far.

If the trends continue, I'll definitely take the Ks with those numbers as well...

when did this happen.... WIN

Since The Rob isn't around to slobber all over "J-Hey," I'll provide an update.

After 19 games: .234BA 4HR 16RBI .364OBP .469SLG with 24Ks in 64AB

Prescient! And the hype machine grinds to a halt. In all seriousness, he's better than this--that much is apparent from watching him at the plate. I'd now expect those numbers to tick up a bit.

The Jay-Hey kid had a great weekend as the Braves swept Houston after losing 9 straight against Philly, NYM, and STL.

Average back up to .272, HR's now at 7, 23 RBI's, .580 slugging and an .968 OPS

Not to pee in your Cheerios, but Jay Bruce had a good weekend when Cincinnati swept Houston too!

The Phillies, Mets, and Cardinals != Astros.

Braves attendance is up. Why is that, you think? | Atlanta Braves

FWIW - Braves attendance is up 20% from last year and this pundit believes it's a combination of Heyward and Bobby Cox's last year.

Minny shows the biggest gains (no surprise here - new stadium). Cleveland has had the biggest drop off.
Well, when you're determined to recreate the movie 'Major League' (without the Hollywood ending) you have to expect a hit at the box office. They're terrible, I'm about as diehard a Tribe fan as you'll find and even I wouldn't spend my hard earned money watching a bunch of schlubs kick the ball around the infield if I still lived there.

So you're saying you're not one of Grady's Ladies?

And that's probably all she wrote for the Braves Legend and future hall of famer.

Very truly sad. He gave absolutely everything he had to the fFranchise and never flirted with another team or free agency. Put his #10 on the Braves HOF right now as far as I'm concerned and give him an interview for a Minor League manager position.

Thanks Chip - you were aces sir.
