Barrett vs Miller drivel (split from Urban F. Meyer thread)

If Braxton comes back healthy enough to play and JT plays well enough and develops into the superstar we all think he has the potential to be, this is going to be a fun problem to have....this is also why coaches like UFM are paid the big bucks.

You don't bench the two time B1G offensive mvp for getting injured. It's a good problem to have tho for sure.
I agree. Now, the talk in August 2015 will become very interesting indeed if JT Barrett ends the season as 2014 B1G offensive MVP. (At the moment the favorites would seem to be Ameer Abdullah and Melvin Gordon.)

Like you said, a good problem to have.

Gigantic "if" there. Let's not get crazy because JT put up some great numbers against absolutely horrible defenses in Kent and Cincinnati. 9/29 with 1TD and 3 picks wasn't that long ago, after all...

It's Brax's job regardless of how J.T. does the rest of the year, and I have no problem with that. You don't bench the 2 time-reigning B1G POY because he got hurt. As for who's better than whom-- My (admittedly not professional) eyeball test gives Brax the edge running...however, that's not to say J.T. is bad in that area. He has been surprisingly good. Arm strength is Brax by a lot. Decision making, hmmm...just from what I've seen, and J.T. has an admittedly small sample size, I think J.T. is a little more sound. That may require some elaboration-- while Braxton's running numbers may be more eye-popping, I think at times he has been a little quick to tuck and run given how gifted he is in that area. Sometimes to his, and the team's detriment. I think J.T. has done a pretty damned impressive job in keeping his eyes downfield and running when the yards are there. Other than sacks, he hasn't been tackled for loss much at all that I can recall. He may not rip-off the big 60 yards runs like Brax, but he picks up 5-7 yards in chunks so far. Accuracy/touch--I give the edge to Barrett by a pretty decent margin. Brax has an incredible arm, and has made some huge plays in the air as well, but in the small sample size, how many errant throws have we seen from J.T? I think he throws a nice ball that is usually on target, or at least catchable. Now if the receivers could just stop dropping them...

J.T. reminds me of a slightly more physically-gifted KG. He has that air of leadership about him. He's a facilitator rather than the show. Brax is the show, as he should be given his physical blessings. Who would I want leading my team in a big game in a vacuum? I can't answer that. Each has his own strengths and weaknesses. I think, long-term (meaning post-Brax), this season is a blessing. By November, we will know whether or not we have a QB to take the reigns when Brax moves on. And he will have a full season already under his belt. That almost never happens, unless you go the Bert/Wiscy "FA" route. I know Barrett's only played 4 games, 2 of which were against basically defensive punching bags. But, he did make the plays that were there for him. And I know his stat line against VT was awful...but, good God, I don't know many QBs...particularly guys in their 2nd college start that could make much of what was given to him in that game.

Bottom-line-- it looks like we're in a pretty good spot. If Barrett is indeed the real-deal, we could go from Brax-to-J.T.-to-Danny Clark. I can live with that.
