OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

I guess I do not understand why Jimmy Jent was put on scholarship as a walk-on. I would have thought that since his father was an employee of Ohio State that Jimmy would get his tuition free but I do not know about the other benefits so maybe that is the answer. Just seems strange.

Joey Lane was also put on scholarship as a walk-on.

I do not think so, because I think we need perimeter players in this class.. We already have enough big men on the roster but I will leave that up to basketball mods:wink:
There are still 2 open schollies for 2017 if no one leaves early and there aren't many prospects left. Plus, he's a legit 6'11 shot blocker, whereas Funderburk is a stretch 4, Wesson is only about 6'8, and who knows how much Bell will play. It also looks like 2018's class will include a guy at every position but center.

If they passed on Culver, why would they make a move for Manley? From a strictly position argument.

With Allen committing to NC State, we currently have two offers out to 2017 uncommitted guards, Troy Brown and Nojel Eastern.

Brown is a long shot, to say the least. Most believe that Sparty leads for Nojel.

Sources close to program indicate Jaquan will leave after this season. He will go make money in Europe if he has to.

That would leave us with CJ and Kam as our only two guards, and only one of those prospects has ever played any PG, and he's never played it at this level.

I am perturbed.

How about MJ Walker:huh: May be he might commit and we could convert him to a PG.

In all seriousness, I am a little more hopeful on Brown then you. With the number of tall PG's that Matta has sent to the NBA and the fact that he visited here gives me a glimmer of hope.

Also, you never know what Matta might do in the late signing periods for possible junior-college guy.

there has been no talk of MJ Walker and OSU for a long time now. I don't know, doesn't seem like we are still in it for him.

as of right now I have very little reason to expect Troy Brown to pick us. literally the only thing I could mention in our favor is that he visited us (and, yeah, the whole tall PG thing). most think he stays out West and even if he doesn't he's got Kansas after him and his sister goes there.

I think we need to identify some new targets. and fast. I'm curious about Victor Bailey but other than ESPN listing us as one of the few schools of interest for him, there isn't much linking us to him.

I dunno about another JUCO. I think we might have got a good one in CJ but he was one of the best JUCOs available and we had to beat out some good schools for him. I don't think you can count on that happening again and I don't know if that would be worth taking away 2018 and 2019 scholly spots. a grad transfer would be ideal but I think it would be good to get at least one HS guard. otherwise the only guard we return for 2018-2019 is CJ Jackson, and that will be his last season.

May be we should have some guys from Bishop Gorman take a drive over to Troy Brown's high school and twist his arm or something.

I guess I just have more faith in Matta then you do when it comes to recruiting.. Especially PG recruiting.
