Love the game, so far. Can't wait to see what the rest of the guns, gadgets, vehicles, and maps have to offer. I plan on picking this game up on release.

Started playing Battlefield with either Bad Company or Bad Company 2, and it's been my favorite FPS for quite a while now. Listening to their fans and feedback is a huge part of why it is my favorite FPS series. It's been too long since there has been a throwback WWI/WWII game.

There are some obvious flaws as expected, but I have full confidence that these early issues will be ironed out and ready for release. The pause menu, main menu lag and occasional freeze is quite frustrating. There have also been some one on one battles that I've encountered where I'm no more than 25 feet away from someone and it takes well over 15-20 accurately fired bullets to take someone out. Also had an issue where I was in an armored jeep, and I was driving away from capture point F, and the jeep simply disappeared and I was stranded on foot. Looked around for a second, then got sniped! Confident these issues will be resolved with proper feedback from the community.

Love the sniping, and the vehicles (including the train) on the beta map.

I've only had a few moments to play this so far, but this is a pretty good breakdown:

Battlefield 1 beta: Surprisingly, WWI is exactly where Battlefield

Battlefield 1 is grittier, more grounded, and wonderfully messy thanks to the influence of its era.
I love that Battlefield 1’s medic carries crutches. It goes completely against my understanding of What Battlefield Is: a big, loud war game where you accumulate ever-cooler tactical gear. The crutches are purely decorative, but the fact that anyone’s carrying a symbol of weakness around on their back in this series could say something about what Battlefield is becoming.

This week’s open beta only offers one map, two modes, and a handful of guns to judge, but I think Battlefield’s 1’s setting is doing wonders for its spirit. It’s making the game more grounded. It starts with the guns: clunky, bulky piles of brass, iron, and wood that generally shoot like shit. Here, watch me completely fail to kill this guy who’s ignoring me:
Wonderful. I mean, that situation would’ve been just another assault rifle kill in BF4. I like the struggle that arises from the greater horizontal bullet spread, and from how terrible my pistol is: it makes a greater portion of my kills and assists feel earned. Besides, it’s not like BF1’s guns are random—I can still pull off fun triple-kills too. It’s just that they have interesting limitations. It’s a game where the technology of the period is both an asset and an obstacle to your ability to shoot dudes.
I found the same thing. Firing from the hip or quickly yielded predictable results. Calm, planned sniping headshots worked beautifully but only if you absolutely nailed the shot.
To give you a sense of how aggressive the damage and accuracy dropoff is for some weapons, the default sniper rifle, the SMLE MkIII, can be dialed to a maximum of 300 meters, a far cry from the kilometer-plus frags you might see in BF4. Guns like Madsen MG, which we saw in the alpha, eat up big chunks of screen space. When I hop on a static MG, I have a comically narrow window to spot enemies through. Piloting the bomber plane is like flying a fragile hippo.

The map is no Metro, but I have had some fantastic battles at C flag and I like how diverse the map is. Horses seem a little OP and the start menu is glitchy but it's been a good beta. I had no intention of picking this game up but I am seriously considering it now. It has the same "fun" appeal BF3 and Bad Company 2 had for me, personally.

WRAP UP:
BATTLEFIELD 1 SUCCEEDS FAR BEYOND EXPECTATIONS

Small issues aside, Battlefield 1 marks an impressive, risk-taking reinvention for the series. That the multiplayer is as good and distinctive as it is is less surprising than a campaign that takes a difficult setting and navigates it with skill and invention. The end result is a shooter than succeeded far beyond my expectations, and one that exists as the best, most complete Battlefield package since 2010.

Might as well use my Bestbuy GCU to preorder this.

Who is in?

I passed on the $48 Amazon discount (which is still active) and opted for the $53 digital copy via EA Access, plus my $10 store credit from having suffered through downloading Fallout 3 for free and having it taken away from me

I've barely had a chance to play it, but I think they did a great job overhauling the gameplay. It is genuinely challenging to take down your opponent, but when you do it's pretty satisfying. I also look forward to playing in parties, both for the teamwork and to lighten the substantial grimness of the game.

Verdict? I have a small group of friend debating on buying it and since we've become particular about how we put our money - trying to avoid [Mark May]ty games, I usually get input in advance.
I'm really enjoying it. They really overhauled the gameplay in a good way. The new guns are interesting and a pretty solid challenge.

Getting kills takes skill. You're going to get whooped early. Just accept that and enjoy the spectacle as you adjust.

Team work might be more essential in this game than any before it. The team that coordinates their efforts wins every time.

I want to see how the game plays out once people have some idea what they're doing. For now its pretty fun.

The tanks are nasty but there are good constraints. The variety of vehicles and ways to attack is awesome.

The maps are unbelievable. They're so big yet manageable. The bullet drop is awesome. The destructability is great. The variety of grenades is a lot of fun. I really enjoy the lack of precision with a number of the weapons, specifically the strong ones like the rifle grenades (old school 40 ml ).

The shifting weather is phenomenal. You might start out in bright sunshine, then clouds roll in , followed by oppressive fog.

They nailed the feel of the battle most of all. So much gritty , harsh warfare. So many people everywhere. Its a grind but a playable one.

My one gripe so far is that rush is set up terribly. They spawn the defense 50-100 meters from the bomb, so if your forces have to respawn, they'll waste the entire time running back to it.

The joining system is a little flaky for now but all ea games are near launch,

This game is fun if you have teammates to chat with. So get them all to buy it and get in our squad. I can't wait to play with more than 4 people in a chat party.
