BCS Bashing/SEC Shutout (Merged)

And if my school played in the SEC, I'ld play a weak out of conference schedule too. With the championship game, that conference is murderer's row.
No, it isn't. Auburn played LSU, Georgia, and Tennessee twice (2nd meeting w/ 3rd string QB). Ole Miss, MSU, Arkansas, Alabama, and Kentucky hardly qualify as a difficult schedule. Auburn dodged Florida in the rotation this year, which hurt their SOS. The premise that the SEC is inherently more difficult is wrong.

How was Auburn's schedule any different from a team like the Buckeyes playing Wisconsin, Iowa, and Michigan, followed by a bunch of teams that were merely pretty good (Purdue, Mich State) and then the scrubs (Penn State, Indiana)?

Oklahoma had to play Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech, but that didn't stop them from scheduling Oregon and Bowling Green (BGSU was probably the better team between those two!).

As of Monday, Dec 6, the BCS standings show Oklahoma with the #1 ranking in computer average (.990), USC is 2nd (.970) and Auburn is 3rd (.920). The actual BCS percentages though are USC in 1st (.9770), Oklahoma in 2nd (.9681), and Auburn in 3rd (.9331). In other words, the difference between Auburn and Oklahoma in the BCS (.035) is smaller than the difference between 2nd and 3rd places in the computer polls (.050). If Auburn had played a good MAC school and a directional Michigan instead of some Sun Belt conference teams and a 1AA, they'd be in the Orange Bowl.

1. A truly epic Orange Bowl matchup reminiscent of some of the great pre-BCS classics. Yes, Florida State-Virginia Tech (1999) and Ohio State-Miami (2002) also paired up undefeated teams, but both of those were billed as David vs. Goliath matchups (though the Buckeyes wound up proving otherwise).
from the genius Stewart Mandel. And here i thought David actually beat Goliath. :smash:

The ONLY reason Auburn is 3rd is because of the preconceptions of the voters before the season.
Well, there are 6 computer polls which are used for the BCS. Each of these polls disregards preseason ranking. All 6 of these computer polls rank Auburn #3.

So although I understand your postition regarding preseason polls, your statement is simply untrue. Auburn got burned by playing The Citadel, La. Tech and La-Monroe. And that's a good lesson for the SEC to learn.

Auburn Got Jobbed

I'm sorry, Auburn had the toughest schedule all year. Someone said it earlier, the only reason they're the odd team out is because they started off ranked lower.

For 5 seconds, I want you to pretend it was OSU that got a raw deal. It isn't fair to those Seniors. They won't ever, ever get another shot.

4 or 8-team playoff. Only way to do it right.

They started off ranked the same in the computer polls, and they wound up a unanimous #3. As for schedule, here is the average computer rankings for every opponent:
