Been looking forward to the UT game for years, BUT...

The season is nearly a year away and here you guys are talking about the next Ohio State football game. How wonderful to find people with normal values and the right attitudes toward life! I love this place. :biggrin2:

I think more like 35-7 with lots of personnel rotation to get people "blooded" before Texas.

Not worried at all about overlooking Miami. It's a season opener, and we've already had the in-state wakeup call with Cincy a few years ago. I also agree that Miami is not going to be up to our speed talent-wise.

Truthfully, I think we're past that phase of having every single game be a close game, regardless of the opponent. It was a wild couple of years, but this group seems to be a more "normal" team that wins by the right margins. :)

As fans, though, we'll probably end up almost ignoring Miami completely in all of the Texas hype. Good thing we're not on the team.

You think that Miami is less likely to turn the ball over against the Silver Bullets? SCum didn't have a running game at that point of the season, and that was Henne's first game that he had just found out he was starting a few day prior to. (stay away grammar police) I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
Our defense forced 19 turnovers in 12 games this season. The only time we forced more than 2 was NC ST(5) and Michigan St. (3). In our early non-conference games, we forced zero turnovers against Cincinnati and Marshall.

It's not likely we'll get 7 turnovers against anybody next year, but I still infinitely prefer the Silver Bullets to the defense in piss-n-blew. I'm not losing sleep, and I'm not bad-mouthing our defense. I'm presenting facts, but they indicate to me that a blowout against Miami is unlikely.

The original post was that we shouldn't look past Miami - I agree with that. We should never look past anyone, but I've tried to present some actual numbers from last season that specifically justify that opinion in this case.

Miami will give more of a game than many think, but will come up short. Betts is not the QB Big Ben is, but still had pretty decent numbers. Miami is one of those "system" teams (think Texas Tech, although more balanced and less gadgety) on offense. They will try the spread/ quick hit game, which tOSU has too much speed for over a full game, but Miami may start strong. On D, that is where Miami is very vulnerable. They typically have a lot gutsy, high motor, not so athletic guys (except for Nande, he's a freak), although they are getting better w/ the additional tv exposure (thank you Rick Chryst). Also, Miami is usually pretty good against the spread, so depending on the spread... but tOSU has too much over 60 minutes, especially in the 'Shoe. 27-14 tOSU. The only matchup where I am a little bit sad and also happy, no matter what the score.

As a Miami alum, this will be the second time I've rooted against them. I sat in the Miami student section 2000 proudly but respectfully wearing my Buckeye shirt and hat.

Our early-season defense this season will be significantly better than our early-season defense of last season. We also gave up a grand total of 20 offensive points in those two early games with zero take-aways. Plus Snyder has a year's worth of DC experience under his belt. Remember the difference in Dantonio between his first and second years as DC?
