Best Albums of 2009 (so far)

This is either gonna be really awesome or really [censored]ty:

Pitchfork: Grohl/Homme/Jones Supergroup Post First Brief Hint of New Music

Last week, we alerted you to the existence of triple-headed rawk hydra Them Crooked Vultures, the supergroup comprised of Queen of the Stone Age Josh Homme, Foo Fighter Dave Grohl, and Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones. On Sunday night, the band played its first show, at Chicago's Metro after the Lollapalooza festivities came to a close. And last night on its Twitter, the band posted a link to a tiny sliver of a new track. (Yes, Them Crooked Vultures have a Twitter.) cont...

Japandroids - Post-Nothing

I had resisted it because of the shitty band name, but I gave up after hearing a couple tracks. There are a lot of two-person bands out there now, but this one sounds almost like a four-piece with punk rock energy.

I'll retract the previous, because I've recently listened to a better album.

Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears - Tell 'Em What Your Name Is! is my favorite album of 2009 so far. It's the first album I've been album to listen to over and over again without skipping any tracks for awhile.

The cover for Weezer's forthcoming album is nothing short of awesome. It's too bad the music is probably gonna suck.

Weezer's Raditude Cover Revealed

You will believe a dog can fly!

raditude.jpg

We have to hand it to Weezer: They've managed to find a photo that fits perfectly with the word Raditude. There is, after all, no denying the awesomeness of flying dogs. Ask this guy.
Raditude is due October 27 from Geffen. According to Spinner, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo found the photo in an issue of National Geographic. Jason Neely's snapshot had won the magazine's reader-submitted photo contest, and Cuomo sought out and got Neely's permission to use the photo. Nice work, everyone.

This is very, very good.

IMO, (And this echos some other posts out here - edit: apparently just piggy-backing on wade's posts...) Hip Hops top albums so far this year are Rick Ross, Mos Def and now Rae. Sadly, I don't think BP3 makes the cut. Slaughterhouse is close, but not sure its as good as the other three.

Just to add to this...
Got that new M.O.P. today... just popped it in. Will ley y'all know. Halfway through the first track now...

Edit: sick album. If you like hard-hitting tracks, M.O.P. has as much if not more punch than Slaughterhouse.

Wouldn't have thought in a year that had new releases from Jeezy, Jay and Jada that my favorites so far would be Rae, M.O.P., Slaughterhouse and Rick Ross.

I knew I would like the Mos and Fabo, so they don't count as surprises
Hip-hop's best for me so far this year...
