That turf couldn't hold Sooner speed and the Trojans move so much slower than us that they never gave themselves a chance to slip.

Speed slips, period. It worked to USC's advantage to be so slow in this game, but under normal circumstances that wouldn't be the case. </td></tr><tr bgcolor="#f5f5dc"><td nowrap="nowrap" width="20%" valign="top" align="left"> 88EESooner

To me it is pretty easy to fix that problem....if the other team isnt slipping look at their freaking cleats and see what they are using and then change yours. Now if both teams are slipping then that is a different story....but you have to change something. Also talk to the home team ie....Miami Dolphins for the Orange Bowl and find out which cleats they are using....common sense to me. </td></tr><tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td nowrap="nowrap" width="20%" valign="top" align="left"> Hallucinogenic Toreador

There is not doubt that the freakshow that took place in the first half was partly caused by our players footing.

I heard that USC got the opportunity to practice underneath the lights at the OB. Is it possible they got the opportunity to run full speed on that field and find out how f*cked up it was and OU did not?

In any case our equipment manager should have had the correct cleats in.

I wondered why AD was not taking the ball to the outside and then making his usual hard cuts up the field like he always does. Perhaps he knew he would slip down? Edited by: eightisgreat at: 1/6/05 10:26:59 pm

Actually this isn't entirely correct, Greg Tipton brought about 5-6 different pairs of shoes with cleat spikes etc... for the whole team.

Also a linebacker on the team that I happen to know very well has said multiple times, usually it's not about the shoes, but it's about the player making sure their weight is properly planted before trying to make a cut up field etc...

There is some truth to that I agree, but we did seem to be having an enormous amount of problems compared to USC. <!--EZCODE FONT START--><!--EZCODE BOLD START-->--Scotty25 <!--EZCODE BOLD END--><!--EZCODE FONT END-->

What makes this hysterical is that:

1) ESPN has been pimping Oklahoma and their program and the millions of dollars of Nike equipment at their disposal all year.

2) Oklahoma won the National Championship game in 2000 on the very same turf at the Orange Bowl.

Miami plays all their home games there ... and they're like the fastest team in the universe I hear! :roll1:

There have been a lot of explanations for 1/04. So far, it is looking like Mark Bradley (the player who tried to field that punt) was paid off by gamblers. Brodney Poole may have been paid off, too, because he got burnt by Jarrett. Also, our players were on steroids. Luckily we are being punished by the People's National Championship. It is understandable, of course, that Sooners would need to find an explanation for what happened. You need only look at their pre-1/04 trash talk to see how completely shocked they are. Luckily, I captured it all...err, most of it...for the historical archives. A sample:

Well then, here's my simple reply. I think we will win the game by 14, however, there is a very good chance that once the Trojans fall flat that it turns into a route (a.k.a. better than 21 points).

I've watched the lame ass product you've put on the field the last two months of the season, you're toast.

I thought the Orange Bowl was played in the Orange Bowl. Which is Miami (Hurricanes') home field.
Yeah, isn't that fucked up?

I guess the Orange Bowl is pretty mucha dump, at least it looks like it when I've seen it on TV. Proplayer does have the distinction of being the worst stadium I have ever seen a baseball game at though, it is worse than Cleveland Municipal Stadium (albeit much cleaner)

Never trust a Sooner to be reasonable. Man, they really need to take their lumps when their Sooners earn them, as much trash as they talk. Hey, Sooner nation - you got absolutely destroyed. Deal with it.

And, while I'm on the issue, pound for pound the Big XII is one of the weakest conferences in College Football. It was nice of you all to send you conf. champion to the big game for once, I'll admit that.

If you had to rank the conf. this year what would it look like? I know that the Big 12 had the three biggest losses of the bowl season but other than USC I think the Pac 10 is even weaker than the Big 12. Big East? Pitt got blown out by a mid major, a very good mid major. Just to let you know the Big 12 and Pac 10 are the only major conf. with winning records.

My Rank:

SEC
ACC
Big 10
MWC
Big 12
Pac 10
C-USA
Big East
WAC
MAC
Sun Belt
