That sounds an awful lot like an "Any updates?" post, Wade.....:p

Watch it or I'll ding you for arguing with a mod...

Just got off the phone with someone who mentioned the LG Dare, but I need the ability to use Outlook, Excel, etc...for I am an elitist.

We get a free PDA at work. I went with the HTC Touch, but everyone who has the AT&T Tilt seems really happy with it.

Verizon left me with two options, really...the XV6800 and the Samsumg i760...the i760 has gotten better review and was about $150 less...'nuff said.

How the hell did I never get a blackberry until now? I had a treo, several motorollas and have just been irritated by every phone I had. I had a treo 650 until last week when my boss got irritated with me having to reboot my phone every time some dumbass mailed a 15 meg attachment he had problems with to our support email address. So, we talked and went back and forth with the marketing guys who wanted to "standardize" the smart phone for the company on the iphone, and well since I don't have any coverage on ATT's network at my house, I fought it and finally we just decided to go with Blackberrys. Half of our sales staff has a pearl now, and with the BES server it integrates perfectly with exchange.

Part of me hated the idea of getting a new phone, let's be honest, dealing with everything that comes with a new phone can piss me off pretty fierce, the Treo was a pretty powerful PDA, but the low volume rings, the pop mail setup and the fact that it didn't make it obvious that you had missed a call well, it fucking pissed me off. The Curve was 50 bux online, my boss bought it, and now I have spent a week with it.

I had always heard the blackberry was the "Smart phone for idiots" sort of like the idea of a Mac vs PC, but, after owning one and playing with it, I don't think I have ever been more satisfied with a phone. Now I just need to find a way to get it colored in Scarlet and Grey, or was that garnette and silver?

Just thought I would pass that along.

Make yourself a helmet stripe with a color printer and an address label (and something to cut it).

It's also very easy to add mp3 ringtones, a welcome change for a typically vzw-restricted user.

I love the simplicity of the device. I'm not sure the Mac v PC comparison is offbase. In 2003 that was a sleight. In 2008, that's a compliment for something that needs to be streamlined and consistent, while still having good versatility.
....

Anyone out there who has gone from a blackberry to an iphone? I love my blackberry, but get awful coverage at home, and will eventually be switching from vzw to att, and would like to carry tunes with me. An 80 gig HD would be nice, but I figure I'm more likely to take my phone with me to shoots and such.

Yeah, it plays mp4 if you rip out the drm, so I put my dead schembechlers album on it and gave my boss "Bo for 24" as my ringtone. He's not very amused, but I am.

I am a windows network admin, and a former graphics/web guy, so the only thing I ever did with a mac was photoshop/illustrator/pagemaker. And I agree with the device, it's simple and powerful.

I have played with an iphone a lot, the screen is fucking awesome, but I hate trying to type on the screen. The marketing guys at work have been pushing it on me pretty hard because they knew if I decided to get an iphone that would be the phone I would support for mobile messaging, but with BES being what it is, there wasn't a real corporate use for it.

I use an 8 gig sd card on my blackberry and can keep a good ammount of tunes on it, I have my 80 gig ipod in my car but really, if I am doing something and want to listen to music there's really about 5 gigs I listen to on a regular basis, the rest is "mood" music or stuff I have on cd that I just don't feel right tossing, and with 80 gigs, well you have a lot of fucking space.

That's what i've been afraid of, is the typing. Maybe if the keyboard rotated, but I still can't see it competing with my pearl. The large, responsive keys are so nice for rapid typing, even without looking. This is especially nice when pounding out a quick response without taking your eyes off of your current activity.

Jobs is adamant about the screen being superior to keys, and this unwilling to add a slider keyboard... But also reportedly wants to break into the international corporate wireless market, which demands a keyboard. So I'm holding out some hope that a keyboard will eventually appear.

What program do you use to play them? I have a 2-4 gig (not sure) card, but was very underwhelmed with the sound. Perhaps that was just the standard player though.

Also, one of my few gripes with my pearl is the microphone. It picks up everything in the room, but is very spotty at picking up low or mumbled speech. I'm not sure if this is due to it's short length (and thus far distance to mouth), but I've had trouble with it b pt picking up some speech when having a lazy talk on a couch that is audible but not enunciated.

In my experience it was tough to really type accurately, but that may be just me. The thing that was irritating for me was having to hold in one hand and type with the other, even with my treo I could just hold the phone and type out messages with my thumb.

To me it's a "to each their own" situation, I am sure some people will adapt to it and grow go get really good with it, I am really used to having a "feel" for my keyboard, that screen though, is damned sexy.

I just use the standard player, the stereo bluetooth is nice since I have stereo bluetooth headphones at work.

I haven't had that problem, but I have the curve, the pearl looked nice and thin, but that keyboard kind of scared me, I have fallen in love with a qwerty keyboard, and wasn't about to go back from it.

Overall, I think it's going to be good for Blackberry that the iphone is available. For years Blackberry has set the benchmark for business and texting phones, but they really haven't seen areas where they should improve because there hasn't been any real compeition. The iphone has brought a lot of new ideas to what a cell phone can do, and I think blackberry will adapt and evolve to what is great about the iphone that the blackberry is lacking. If nothing else, maybe it will get them to do something to make the web browser nicer, that's the only thing that my treo did better but it's not a real issue for me, as I don't really like looking at web pages on my phone except to visit my minicity :p

One other thing, and this probably won't effect many users, but it's a big issue for me in regards to the iphone. No MMS messaging and no flash on the camera, now, for a lot of people this won't matter as picture messages are mostly useless, but I spend time in data centers and need to send picture messages to show what I have done, what the cabeling looks like or to some of my vendors so they can get a "view" of what I am looking at.
