I would like to know the time period for the 6 year averages. According to the graph VT has a better basketball program than we do.
Also Kansas is a two sport program???? Hardly....even though they went to a BCS bowl once a while ago...

Well its a graph on attendance...

Stumbled across this article discussing football & basketball attendance & thought it might be worth linking.

Boy Miami looks even more appealing than ever. :so:
I feel like this needs a mention. Looks like it's % attendance, not actual attendance numbers.
Syracuse is the major outlier in this group, as both of its teams suffer according to this measure because they play in an oversized dome.

Their basketball arena seats about 10,000, if I recall correctly. I think that explains it.

I don't know why everyone is saying that the SEC can rip up the ESPN deal... they can't. It's a contract. They can ask ESPN to renegotiate, but ESPN does not have to accept. There is a clause that is quoted in contract often, but is misinterpreted. Essentially it is an out for ESPN. If the SEC were to LOSE a member, it gives ESPN the right to renegotiate...

This is why the SEC expanding now makes zero sense to me. The reason why the G1G can expand whenver is because since we have the BTN, tv revenue windfall would happen IMMEDIATELY. You didn;t see us renegotiating our broadcasting rights when we added Nebraska did you? The Pac10's rights were up for bid last summer, so it was perfect timing to expand. When te ACC went to twelve, same deal. Right now, everyone (besides the B1G with the BTN) is stuck with their current tv deals for quite some time. So, adding two new members to the SEC would actually make it so each team would get less of a percentage of the SAME pot... makes no sense

I don't know that ESPN is even dumb enough to get into another "consider them rolled" negotiation with another conference. I tend to think that ESPN might be willing to renegotiate if there is any sort of justification from the SEC's side.

Why? IF the SEC expands, ESPN has NO reason to renegotiate... they have the conference locked in til like 2022... ESPN would actually rather the B12 stay together so they don't have to renegotiate all the deals again

Really the ONLY reason to renegotiate would be that the SEC would have one extra football game to show on TV.

Normally contracts have a set number of games and windows per week. The Big Ten didn't have to renegotiate their contract cuz that extra game that is created from Nebraska goes to the BTN. BUT, the SEC is a lil different.

The SEC is lucky that it has 2 networks that show their games. They could in theory shop that 7th game to both networks to see what they get. THAT would be the only reason the SEC thinks it can get extra money. Maybe CBS is willing to up the ante so it can have another game to show to lead into their big game of the week. ESPN might be willing to pay enough to not let the CBS get another game?

That would be the ONLY way I can see the SEC getting more money out of this. But then again... this 7th game is the Vandy v Ole Miss or Kentucky v Miss St type game.

Without seeing the exact contract it's impossible to know what types of escalator/elevator clauses are included.

The reason why the G1G can expand ....
The G1G is Bevo's future 'mix & match our surfs' conference after the Big 12 collapses right?

Dan Beebe and the Big 12 are floating big time names as A&M's replacement.
Give the conference credit, it's attempting a haymaker in response to the SEC's raid.
The Big 12 is wooing Notre Dame and Arkansas. I don't believe either school will join
the Big 12 because the conference's future remains all too tied to the whims and
proclivities of Texas, but I am fascinated by the Big 12's pursuit of Arkansas. Why?
Because it's an attempt at Civil War between the SEC and the Big 12.

Piggies ain't going to a conference run by the shorthorns. Period.
