And then they went and fired the coach who gave them that success...

I see now... we just got the Minnesota of the ACC.

I don't know about that - Minny never got to any BCS games or won the Big Ten under Mason.

Fridge shouldn't have been fired, but his staff basically disintegrated underneath him. So instead of allowing him to hire a new staff the AD just bought him out. Crappy move IMO, but it is what it is.

On field performance isn't driving this process for the Big Ten and it sure as hell isn't for Maryland.

Pretty Clear what Delany is doing here. Reply
He knows that the PSU fanbase want to leave the Big Rust Belt conference, so he goes out and tries to bring in some East Coast teams to throw us a bone. Well, no way this is going to work. It just makes the Big Ten look less stable. I suggest we start packing our bags, gentlemen, because a spot just opened up in the ACC!
If only.

Winning or losing, ok, mostly losing, the terps still get a lot of TV coverage in Baltimore and DC and Rutgers should do well in Jersey and Philly. TV market wise, it seems to make sense to me.

Even more so for basketball. People around here love Maryland (and Georgetown) basketball.

So just add Virginia and NC and be done with it.

I say Georgia Tech/Virginia or Georgia Tech/North Carolina.

Georgia has a lot of recruits for football and basketball.

Regardless, two more schools from the ACC (total of three) should do the trick (if Delany wants chaos).

I'll agree with that. Since all this nonsense got started:

Big Ten

+ Penn State
+ Nebraska
+ Maryland
+ Rutgers

SEC

+ South Carolina
+ Arkansas
+ Texas A&M
+ Missouri

Pac 12

+ Colorado
+ Utah

Big 12

- Colorado
- Nebraska
- Texas A&M
- Missouri
+ TCU
+ West Virginia

ACC

+ Florida State
+ Miami
+ Virginia Tech
+ Boston College
+ Pittsburgh
+ Syracuse
- Maryland

Big East

+ No one who matters
- Everyone of consequence

I'd say the Big Ten stacks up pretty good when you look at it as a whole.

Boise State, San Diego State and BYU have had conversations with Mountain West membership about the possibility of returning to the league, sources told ESPN.
The talks originated after last week's decision in Denver by the BCS commissioners to award an automatic access bowl berth to the highest-rated champion to the "Group of Five" conferences. That decision in essence put the Mountain West on equal footing, as far as playoff access is concerned, with the Big East starting in 2014.
Sources said Monday those talks are expected to bring on greater significance after Maryland announced it was leaving the ACC for the Big Ten. ESPN reported Rutgers will announce Tuesday it is also leaving for the Big Ten. That means the Big East will lose Rutgers and then potentially either UConn or Louisville to the ACC.
A San Diego State official said: "Nothing changes, we are committed to the Big East."
With the Big East losing two more schools and having the same playoff access as the Mountain West, Boise State and San Diego State are reconsidering their options. One of the main reasons both schools opted to join the Big East was the draw of more television revenue.

So I guess that now makes it:

Big East

+ No one who matters
- Everyone of consequence
- Those schools that don't matter
