They don't give out a trophy for this, but there will be a celebration in Piscataway on Tuesday that Rutgers fans will savor for a very long time. Because, at long last, the Scarlet Knights have won a title.

They are the National Champions of Realignment.

...

"Some of this is hyperbole," said Robert Boland, the chair of NYU's Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Management. "But it might be the most significant moment in sports for Rutgers since they invented the game."

Cont'd ...

It seems to me the best way to reorganize the conferences would be as follows:

First, combine all D1a football programs into a single conference. Then, divide that conference into a series of pods, in two tiers. In the first tier, what could be termed the championship pods, you'd have maybe 4 pods, each of about ten to twelve teams, comprising all of the programs that have a remotely legitimate shot at a national championship. Something like a southeastern pod, a midwestern pod, a plains states/southwestern pod, and a pacific coast pod. All of the rest of the programs would go into the second tier of pods, which would geographically overlap with the championship pods, but none of the second tier pod teams would get serious consideration for a national championship.

Each pod could determine a pod champion as it sees fit. You could have a round-robin schedule within the pod, a not-complete round-robin pod schedule with tiebreakers, or you could subdivide the pod and have a pod championship game.

However it's done, you could then crown a national champion either by voting for the strongest pod champion, or by holding a playoff between the champions of the tier one pods.

This would be a flexible approach, and would seem to be the only way to truly break free from the sclerotic conference situation in which the game is currently mired.

The B10 will be paid for the # of eyeballs in the viewing area... and that the B10 brand will bring those eyeballs... the package will be immense...

Number of fans doesn't matter. It's TV sets in the viewing area.

It's not 'will be' it's 'may be', it's not guaranteed. There will be a fight with the companies to get BTN on the basic tier and it will require pushback from the subscribers to get the cables companies to back down.

That is why the Fox/Yes deal is so important if the rumors of an intent to bundle Yes/BTN are true.

Disagree.. I like these little fuckers. Surprised even myself to say that, I must admit.

That will change.

What makes up a large part of the PSU cult? Folks from Jersey.
Where do the few Miami fans who start fights & talk trash come from? Jersey.
Where do the drunken idiots WVU is known for come from? Jersey.
New Jersey is a blight and it's people are a plague.

I'm thinking of the scene from Alien when the monster ate his way out from the gut of the poor sick guy. Then looked around at everybody and ran off.....

either that or she's got a bun in the oven and the Knight did it.

Guess BWI's warning about being OSU and Michigan's bitches didn't take. lol

Rutgers and Maryland loathe Penn State. They dealt with Paterno, his crooked ways and home ref crews long before we took the measure of that cowardly old man. I don't think BWI will find much sympathy for their batcrazy shit among the new schools.

Pretty sure Miami, BC, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, and Syracuse have all experienced success in my short lifetime. We're not talking about 60+ years of dormancy here like Minnesota or Illinois. And the Big East could've had Penn St if they hadn't blackballed them over concerns Paterno would rule the conference.

Well I still think they came out ahead in that regard.

Even the total obliteration of your conference is still the better alternative.

If we our division gets MD and Rutgers, they should change the names to the Blue and Red divisions.

Red would then have at least 5 teams with red as a primary color - OSU, Wiscy, Rutgers, Maryland and Indiana.
Blue would have Illinois, Michigan, Northwestern with blue colors - far less, but still plausible (green and yellow would also play a major part of other teams).

Would make a lot more sense than Legends and Leaders.

More anti-PSU bias. :shake:

It depends if you think this round is over. I don't see how you go to 4 divisions with 14 teams.

Two pods of 4 & two pods of 3. The pods of 4 being fixed and the pods of 3 swapping every two years.

Can't copy and paste on phone but beau bishop tweeted that after talking with Gene that there's a good chance osu and mich end up in same div
