been a ton of backlash from the talking heads at ESPN radio. Lots of people saying this was a dumb move to bring these schools in

That's like saying Coke disagrees with Pepsi for coming out with a low cal soft drink that hurts their sales. I did see that outside the lines had that regard from Ohio U and other dissidents saying this was all a money move and bad for CFB. Pot did not meet kettle (on air).

UVA brings nothing new relative to media markets, and is therefore a non-starter.

UNC is a possibility, as is Georgia Tech. And don't write off the University of Florida. They have the academic chops, and they could make more money as a B1G member than continuing in the SEC.

OK, I'll bite - what new media markets does UVA bring in that we haven't already tapped into with Maryland?

That's why North Carolina and Georgia Tech seem more logical (and connects the conference to the South, in a way).

Regardless, you don't float out East Coast offices for just two East Coast schools.

Gerry DiNardo said it would be 16 by the Spring, however he wouldn't know inside information.

That's because ESPN owns the SEC and the Big 10 owns BTN. ESPN is spinning this to suit their marketing needs.

Yep. Remember when BTN first started and the ESPN Big Ten bloggers weren't allowed to reference BTN or anything?

This is when I still read ESPN.com (five years ago), but they weren't even allowed to put BTN on their master schedule (where it showed games on CBS or FOX Sports or NBC).

None. UVA is an excellent school with a crappy football program. I cannot imagine them pulling in significant viewership. Home team or no, nobody likes watching a consistent loser.

Their "Crappy" football program has the same winning percentage as Maryland, their stadium seats more, and they have quite a bit of wealthy alumni.
